I was running this Eureka I had gotten brand new. It decided to blow up!! I threw it outside and sprayed it with a fire extinguisher. Crazy.

A good example of poor construction at its best. I will only collect 50+ year old vacuums because of that with the exception of high-end or good reputation machines up to the 70's. What a piece of crap that thing is. how'd u get it out of the house on fire? Good thing you didn't get hurt with that toxic crappy plastivac. The last time I popped a old hoover it simply sparked at the commutator, and indented the top of the hood. I wouldn't touch a TTI vac with a ten foot pole. Same with the dysons. Proves that Kirby, Filter Queen, and Rainbow are the last good vacs on earth.

Did it actually catch fire? That's scary. If that was fairly new, I would report it to them, probably won't make much difference though. Kind of a shame, at one time, Eureka made very good vacuums, but those days are long gone. Good thing it didn't set something else on fire in the process.

Luckily I was using it on my test carpet in the garage, and it didn't catch that on fire. It probably melted this badly while I was trying to get the extinguisher out from underneath a dog food bag. From what I know, the machine was probably 4 or 5 years old. I called Eureka, and they refused to send me a new cleaner because I was "out of warranty". It nearly burned down my house, the least they could do is give me a new one.

I prefer the Bravo, Victory, PowerLine or World Vac anyday over anything Eureka makes today

Yep. I use my Kirby Heritage II as my daily driver, so I don't have to worry about this happening again!
Can the "remains" of that Eureka vacuum be sent to the Eureka folks for "autopsy" to see why it failed?

After my response, I'd tell them, 'Tell me WHY I should ever buy another OR recommend your brand to others".
I had a problem at Lowe's once. I asked them this question. "Why should I buy ANYTHING for my completely new bathroom here"? They apologized AND gave me a great reason to buy there again: a hefty discount on ANY/EVERY bathroom item.

same thing happened to me i had a kenmore whisper tone upright the one they had the foot pedal to shut the brush roll off 97 98 year i took it into sears for service the foot pedal would not stay down when you would shut the brush roll off it would go back up so i picked it up from sears i come home im vacuuming about 5 minutes later i put the hose back in and see sparkes coming out then smoke i unplugged it but the time i was out the door it was on fire side was all melted off

You should report this fire w/the picture to not only Eureka, but the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Could you imagine this happening to someone like my little deaf grandmother with mobility issues. The user could easily be injured and a lot of property damage could occur.
A report should be made, in the event that they may want to issue a warning or recall.

I would also report it and send them pictures and perhaps the burnt up vacuum itself. A product failing is one thing, but catching fire is unacceptable. Unfortunately, Eureka is not what it once was. Back in the 1950's through the 1970's, they made some of the best canister vacs, I can't think of anything now that they make that would be worth buying.

Eureka's apparent lack of concern is grounds enough to avoid their products in the future. Unfortunately, it often takes a death or two to get a manufacturer's attention anymore.

That model and any similar style bagged or bagless Maxima were awful!! They always sounded like a hissing leakage of air somewhere. I would not have thought of it to catch fire like it did though!!
