This is my Aunt's canister vacuum. She does not remember how old it is, and I need help identifying its age. This may be in the wrong forum, depending on the age of it.

This exact model was top rated by Consumer Reports in the spring of 1993. I bought one for myself in 1994. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these World Vacs went to an international fund to save forests. I loved this vac - the power nozzle was excellent, and the top-side Tool Pak carried a full set of attachments including a floor brush!

You know, the only thing that bugged me about my red World Vac canister were the bulbous plastic real wheels - the profile stuck out and they had a tendency to scratch furniture and walls! As a matter of fact, that was the biggest problem with this vac: no furniture protection whatsoever...it actually even lacks a bumper of any kind on the main unit. :-(

That vacuum was also sold by JcPenney, it's featured in my 1994 catalog.

Consumer Reports also did a report marking this a Best Buy in 1996. Not sure if that was the A or B, and I don't know the differences between the A and B. Both have the same power nozzle. 4 on board tools and typical Eureka had grip similar to that of 1700 series. Eureka did have higher echelon World Vac canisters which would have incorporated one of their "gas pump" style handles with brush on/off and suction regulator, and covered tool storage. These machines are ok. Consumer Reports rated them Excellent on carpet deep cleaning. I think that the Hoover PowerMax and Futura did better on carpet deep cleaning but Consumer Reports only rated the Hoovers as Very Good for that category.
The filtration on these world vacs is not good. Its a foam style filter which meaures about the full width of the bag department and only has a small bracket at each end to keep it in place, so the whole thing flops around until the machine is turned on and then ofcourse suction should hold in place but the bag shifts it, then you may not have a filter seal over the suction opening in the bag department.

Did you know that Eureka actually donated a portion of the price from these machines to help save Rainforests and other wilderness. Thats why it was called "The World Vac" it was Eureka's nice way of doing a good deed/ community service. They manufactured various models under the World Vac name in both canister and upright form, throughtout much of the 1990's. It's possible that if you walk into a Kohls in the vacuum department you may see on their "Floorcare" department sign the nozzle of a blue hard cased Eureka World Vac Boss upright. Those uprights really were quite nice looking- an awesome shade of blue.

i have both uprights of the world vacs one is the mega boss and the other is the blue but i have never seen the soft bagges with a headlight only that hard bagged. i was looking on ebay and there was a would vac with two speed and with a dirt finder i was thinking of getting one but i like the old style better if only i can find a auqa powerline i would give up two of mine in my collection

Eureka Smart Vac Model 6865
Was given to me a year ago, finally got around to restoring it.
First I noticed black material oozing from the motor compartment into the bag compartment. Solid and not just a bit of this. I took pictures with my phone. The ooze turned out to be the motor gasket. What a mess...could not have been rubber and there was not sign of heat damage to any of the plastic. I have no clue.
I had only the motor unit, but I did have the following from my spares. Wands, crevice, bags, upholstery brush and a white PN. I found the hose on Ebay.
I read about this vacuum, terrible bag chamber pre-motor filter set up. I did make a sturdier filter from some material I had. Just need to clean it up a bit more.
So I need a dusting brush (round neck) and a floor brush.

This is what I was talking about. Hard to see, but the bag chamber had some of this solidified ooz sticking out of the slots. I had already scraped some off before I took the picture.

Wow! That's crazy!
I believe that is what was left of the foam or rubber motor gasket that silences motor noise and vibration from the plastic housing. You live in Texas so it likely got very very hot at one point in its life in poor storage and it just baked.
If it isn't that, it might have been some type of tar that someone did themselves at trying to soundproof it.

Yeah, to me it looks like a melted rubber gasket. Could probably fashion a new one out of rubber sheet material.
That's a fancy model too, having two motor system and a cord reel. I did not realize there was a Smart Vac model like that. The only two motor Eurekas I knew of were the Eureka Excaliber and Sanitaire version and the mini uprights like Eureka Boss Lite and Optima.
