When one thinks of the colors most associated with Eureka surface cleaners produced in the '60s (and even lingering into the '70s with some budget models)—such as the model 200 Series Twin Power and Deluxe uprights, and 700 Series Prince, Princess, and Cordaway canisters—Lagoon Blue and Platinum Blue come to mind (or dark and light turquoise to the uninformed).

Well, come to find out those enamel colors were also used contemporaneously in the auto industry; most notably the Platinum Blue 1964 Thunderbird and one of the colors of the 1961 Amphicar, designed by German engineer Hans Trippel and manufactured by the Quandt Group from 1961 to 1968.

Do you know of others in North America or other continents painted in those colors at that time or since?

And while Lagoon Blue or Platinum Blue may have been seen around the LBJ Ranch on a Eureka cleaner or two, it wouldn't have been the only place. It seems that US President Lyndon B. Johnson (1963-69) selected Lagoon Blue for the color of his Amphicar, which he used to drive Ranch visitors around and to play one of his pranks on them.

Enjoy the photos and trivia, and using your Lagoon Blue & Platinum Blue Eurekas for spring cleaning.

And who knows, maybe your vac(s) match(es) the paint color names of other vehicles like some of Eureka's other enamel color selections like Gold Mist, Regatta Red, Regatta Yellow, Moss Green, Queen Anne Gold, Arctic Blue, Big Bad Orange, Brandywine, Cinnamon, and Forest Green.
