Eureka Upright Model: 2080 B

I recently acquired this Eureka Upright and was wanting to know some more information about it. I'm thinking it was manufactured in the early 70's. I know the box top bag models are somewhat rare. It looks like it has the Vibra Groomer II installed, was this original to the machine?

It was kept in the basement of a home that used a central vacuum and it looks like it hasn't had much use.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

That seems a little old to have a VGII. I would think it would come with the VG1. Ether brush roll is great so you have a great find there.

The first Vibra Groomers were installed in the 2072, 2082, 2092 series of uprights with the flatter hood. These came out in 1973. I don't think the original series (2070, 2080, 2090) originally came with Vibra Groomers, because if they did, you would have seen that advertised on the hood along with the "Rugulator" feature.

Here is a wonderful print ad for Mother's Day that I absolutely loved in secret when I first saw it. The boy in the ad is about my age at the time - maybe 11 or 12 years old, and I used to always bring Mom "breakfast in bed" as a surprise in those years. The only thing missing in my life was a Eureka Vanguard like the boy in the advertisement. If anyone knows the date of this ad, you will have the date of this Eureka - I'm thinking 1971 or 1972. And you see that there is no mention of the Vibra Groomer brush roll anywhere in the description. This model must have come with a "bristle-only" Disturbulator, because Eureka had to wait for Hoover's beater bar patent to expire.

By the way, this is only the right page of a two-page spread that inlcuded some lovely avocado Princess canisters with faux woodgrain inlays on top.

I love to see older "Deluxe" uprights -that is, with cord reels, multi-speed switches, special bags, etc. For whatever reason the nicest old uprights I'm lucky enough to come across are lucky to have headlights. I guess it's just that people from New England are historically cheap, and they were even more tight-fisted when these uprights were around than they are now, which is still "plenty". (I worked in a shop and it was amazing how cheap people were, to such an extent that they'd try to buy non-plenum-rated cable to run through walls!)

My great gran parents had a red eureka cord away canister similar to the one in that picture but I think the red one, the one they owned was from the mid to late 1970's.

By the way...I think that this Eureka Vanguard is one of the most beautiful uprights I have ever seen. Such understated sophistication - it exudes confidence and power and style and solidity. Just love this model to bits.

That Eureka Princess canister brings back so many memories! My uncle gave me one when I was little. It was just the canister and the hose, no tools. I remember it was missing the plastic piece that goes over the switch, making it a step on switch. I'm not sure what ever happened to it, but I'd love to find another one some day!

By the way, that Eureka would have originally had the Distribulator brushroll. I believe that is what it is called, but I have got that same Eureka and that is what it is..

Thanks for confirming what I thought, Chase.

I am almost positive that the Eureka Vanguard was sold several years before Eureka introduced the VibraGroomer brushroll - the first time this was sold was on the newer 2072, 2082 and 2092 models. The Vanguard's biggest innovation was the Rugulator height adjustment, and it definitely would have included a bristle-only Disturbulator.

Thanks for the help. I found a manual for the Eureka 200 series that Mark Berger had posted, and I have the aluminum type brush roll. Guess this was before the Vibra Groomers were introduced.
