how to adjust my power drive on my eureka

i understand there were two versions of the Eureka powerdrive mechanism. on the common/later version, all you do is unscrew the cover over the axle/transmission and it should be obvious at that point.

on my Eureka, i noticed the gears were gringing slightly, so i opened it up. you want the gears to engage firmly, yet the clutch able to maintain freedom when in neutral. it sounds hard but will come together when you take the cover off. if i remember, the forward and reverse plates/gears each have their own set screw

there is a specialty screw on this housing am I correct it is a star shape. Is this the cover I need to remove the type of tool needed leaves me at this time as I am plain and simple beat. Thank you for all your help my eureka has eaten my burber floor because it is sooo engaged in the drive I have to hold it back lol.

The 6 pointed star drive is known as TORX up here. You can get the bits at Home Depot or Lowes for sure, I hope, down there in Florida. They come in sizes like the square drive so take a pencil rubbing of the screw top to get the correct size.

A cross shape is a Phillips and the square drive is Robertson, a Canadian innovation.

Be thankful it isn't one of those 'security' screws with the hexagonal Allen Key shape with a center pin...or one of them dang triangular Japanese screws used in toy assembly (for them I use a triangular file section).

check your wheels

the back wheels should have rubber on them. It some times comes off with old age and there will be teeth showing that can heart the rug or not make it drive right.

thanks sooo much I really appreciate this. My partner was screaming not literally but was miffed about the rug. I figured there had tobe some sort of tread I will have to look in my lego bog for something that might fit lol.

eureka still sells the wheels for the power drive uprights. I can get you the eureka part # if you need it. I got some from essco a short time ago.
