Eureka Model H hand vac

Nice score, Jim. I'm glad it's in your capable restorative hands; although it appears to be in great shape as is!

According to Hoover300's and my research, the Junior Models H & J were manufactured from 1929 to 1942. One had Deluxe features, but I don't recall the model.

If any VL Eureka contributor ever visits the McLean County History Center where Eureka’s archives are kept, we may be able to learn more specific details such as serial number production years.

Very nice! Yours appears to be the sleeve bearing model. The only way to tell the difference without disassembly is the rear bearing cover on the ball bearing model sticks out about 3/4 an inch and is about the diameter of a quarter, where the sleeve bearing has a small dimple no larger than a dime. Going by what I can see, that is a sleeve bearing one. Very smooth runners.

It's here!

I got the Eureka Junior hand vac last week, and finally got a chance to get started on it. It looks and runs well. The armature has the numbers 7 39 stamped on it so that tells me it was built in July 1939. The bag looks to be made of the same material as the Eureka model M bag. It has a bristle brush on the nozzle that has worn down over the years, so I might replace the bristles myself.

I have never done it before so that will be a new challenge for me. I'll take pictures as I go when I have time to work on it. This is the 3rd hand vac, and the 4th Eureka to be added to my collection.

Jim

Sweet, Jim—you bet! So glad it will be in your hands where it belongs.

Congrats on winning your lower-priced Junior auction—that's always a great feeling!

Re-bristling

Hey Jim, Nice work as usual,no surprise. If you have any questions on re-bristling the nozzle, you might check with bikeray. He's posted pics of some he's done and they're quite nice!

I see the bump out on the back of the motor shell so did yours turn out to be a bearing type model?

Archives

Jim, I'm sorry I don't have a link or a thread number I just remember seeing the photo of a nozzle to an antique vacuum that he owned. I've never gone to wherever the old threads are kept, but if you can tell me how to get there I would gladly try to find that post from bikeray for you. He doesn't list his phone or email on his profile but maybe he'll see this and respond.

Thanks

Thanks Paul,

Unfortunately, I don't know how to look it up by thread #. When I put it in it only showed this thread. I'll keep looking thanks again.

Side note: I can't find anything about it on you tube ether. All they show is how to replace brush rolls or replacing brush roll strips.
