i picked up this vac yesterday off of CL and cleaned it up...so here it is!
couple questions...

1. am i correct in thinking that is not the original hose? it seems to me like a cheap replacement
2. how should i clean up the front decal? its pretty scratched up as seen in the pics
3. does anyone have the tools i could buy/trade for? it came with the straight wands and the two tools shown, and i subbed in the elbow from my princess, but if anyone had another tool set including the elbow, please email me

Wow - my favourite Eureka "Sweet Sixteen"!!!!

That's actually not a cheap hose - it's very lightweight and easy to use, but quite durable and sturdy. Especially if you compare it to the really wimpy hoses you get on a Shark or even a new Eureka Mighty Mite. And it's nice to see the classic chrome steel wands and hose handle.

Can anyone comment on the performance of this line of Eureka's from the early 1970's? Did they have the same dust leakage problem as the earlier Eureka canisters like the Empress and Empress II?

Another question....

Does this Eureka Sweet Sixteen have the "audio" signal with the "bag check" meter? Or is the bag full signal only a visual one where the blue light turns on?

A relative had one of these,and i remember it well. Yes, definatly the original hose, yes, had dirt leakage problems.
As far as an audible bag signal, i think it did squeel,or release suction somehow. Wasnt a beep or anything like that tho.
I know there was a power nozzle version too.
Yes, these models had awsome suction power.
Another relative had the PN version, and they had what they used to call "Indoor/Outdoor" carpet.
The PN would clamp down on it so tightly you almost couldnt push it,, IF the vac was set on full suction power by the little dial on the top. You'd have to release the suction,either that way, or there was also a suction release valve on the handle of the PN hose,,which was a VERY long lasting hose also. Infact, i know this relative still uses this vac to clean out his garage,cars, ect and still using the original PN hose in excellent condition. Infact, the hose is the best looking part of the machine.
Im thinking they bought this vac around 1975.
