since my last post of the eureka express I received I thought I would show a photo of the machine whole. I was able to service and clean it up this afternoon and it looks and runs like a top.

Express

My mom bought a Blue Eureka Express brand new in about 1986 and it was our main vacuum for over 10 years. It withstood lots of use and abuse during that time and it always cleaned very well. At the time she bought it the Express received very high marks from Consumer Reports, and its VibraGroomer III cleaned very well. I knew the vac worked well but I didnt really like it at the time, since I told her over and over agin that she should have bought an Electrolux lol (I was an Electrolux fan from the time I was born) I look back now and laugh at it. Its even more funny considering that 25 years later I use the Express Power Nozzle with our VacuFlo central vacuum, since it cleans circles around the Lindhaus Stealth PN that I have. I can still remember changing the Eureka Type V bag in that machine and it would always be packed full like a brick every time. My mom always jokes that it was the best vacuum she ever bough. The canister is packed away in the attic now and she will never ever part with it, especially since I used it so much when I was little :)

'Tis indeed a thing of beauty, Mike. *sigh*

Such clean lines, simple styling, neat colours.

The top of the line version of the Express was indeed top-rated by Consumer Reports one year in the late 1980's (1988?). The one that earned top marks had a maroon colour scheme with creamy pink step-on buttons, wheels, highlights and bumpers. This high end model had an electronic suction control dial on the gas pump handle. It's shown on the inside of the protective cover of the 1988 Eureka book called "How to Beat Housework".

Nice to remember a vac that was both beautiful and great at cleaning. My only gripe: no place to store a floor brush on-board.
