Eureka Excalibur

I recently bought a Eureka Excalibur after a friend suggested it to me. The tool suction seems weak compared to other vacs with on board attachments. Is this normal? He cleaned it up and it had a huge clog. After the clog was cleared the suction improved dramatically, but it still doesn’t seem quite right. [this post was last edited: 2/23/2012-20:06]

When you use the hose also take the extension wand out of the holder because there is an air flow piece that controls the air flow..Hope that helps!

I second the recommendation! The Eureka Excalibur was one of those uprights that diverted airflow through the attachment hose once you removed the hose from the storage position. You'll need to check that the diversion mechanism is not jammed or clogged. Once in the storage position, the air flow from the suction motor is diverted away from the hose and directly to the brush roll chamber facing the carpet. When cleaning carpet, the air flow does not go through the hose - it goes directly to to the dirt bag. So you should really check the hose storage/diverter area for any problems.

I have had a few of these machines and although they are good floor cleaners the tool suction/airflow is not all that great, I think the Bag chamber Design could have been a little more thought out due to all of the dirt and fluff mostly blocking the path of airflow and suction. however it is a really durable machine.

The big problem I seem to remember from these Eureka Excalibers was that the electrical switches would break due to the power overload coming from the two motors. Don't know if it was a fire hazard or something more dangerous, but I remember reading that the electrical system on these vacs was not designed to properly handle the two motors. Other Vacuumland repair guys may be able to provide more information.....

On the other hand, one of the big pluses of this vacs is that ALL the tools, inclusing the bare floor brush, store on board. And the tools are full size Eureka tools - no combo-tools or any other compromises.

Made the mistake of not removing the extension wand to use the tools. Your correct, Ryan!

Still the suction is not what it should be. The diverter is accessed by removing two screws in the back correct? When we checked it there was a huge clog. I’m thinking the diverter is the problem. Thanks guys!

Kenny - you should not have to remove all the wands to get the suction diverted to the hose. There should actually be 3 holes to store the following: 2 wands and a separate hole to store the hose end. The vac may have two holsters on one side and the single hose handle holder on the other side - can't remember for sure. Or maybe one wand stores on one side, and the other wand and hose handle store on the other side in 2 separate holes. Just make sure you are storing the hose end inside the holster that activates the diverter.

I think someone on Vacuumland may have a Eureka brochure which shows the proper way to store the hose and wands. This should help you.....
