Some info and history....
This came to me many years ago (around 1999)when I was working for the local vacuum shop. It usually sits in a box in storage wrapped in plastic. It's been out of that box once in three years as of late.
I used to use it alot, but the plastic is kinda brittle, and the step switch has always been broken. i sold this older gentleman a Riccar 8000 series in place of this. He just wanted an upright...
CLEARLY that was OK!!! by me....

That is a beautiful vacuum cleaner, it's a shame about the brittle plastic pieces. I've been pretty lucky so far. The power head is the best looking one I've ever seen too.
Can you show a picture of power nozzle undersides. I want to see where the "edge" cleaner is because mine Edge cleaner but there isn't that I can see. There's like 1/4 inch or more between the brushroll opening and the edge of the power nozzle.

That is a lovely vacuum. I love the different settings for carpets and upholstery. I bet that was top of the line in its day.

I am going back to Lansing next weekend for a visit. When I get a minute I will take "shots" of the action area for you. you are correct tho... On one side theres less than an eighth of an inch while on the belt side it's like an inch and a half of Edge Kleener space.
It does Not have the original Disturbulator, and has a double brush replacement I most likely ordered thru ESSCO. I did this when I got it as the bristles were shot on the old mandrel. the beater bars were nicked to hell too.....
Other than that this older gentleman was very good to his machine, and of course as stated after I had it and used it for quite awhile, I packed it in it's tomb with like 30-40 of the original Eureka (S) bags and forgot (literally) about it.
Yes electrogirl this was a very expensive machine for it's day. It was Eureka's TOL machine, and usually ran around $329.99-299.99 for the mid 1970's which was ALOT.
Eureka made this basic machine for both Montgomery Wards and JC Penney with minor trim and color modifications. I used to have a deep burgundy early 80's JC Penney model, which mainly differed in features of having the differences of the newer Vibra Groomer I brushroll, and only three pushbuttons on the panel. Foolishly because I'm developmentally delayed, I ended up trading it or giving it away at some point always favoring (personally)the Eureka original.
I will never part with this.
It's back in it's cocoon, and I can retrieve it again for pictures ..."if" I have time...

Well, Chad, by keeping the Eureka original, you've kept the best of the bunch. Yes $299-$329 was a lot for the 70's and even by todays standards; where people snap up 40 dollar dirt devils from wal-mart.
