Eureka Boss Smart Vac Bagless

I was wondering if anyone here recalls the Eureka Smart Vac bagless machine that was sold (if I remember correctly) around the year 2000? I remember that there was favorable talk of it on the old Vacweb forum, and I purchased one from Sam's Club. I recall that it performed well, but for my taste, emptying and cleaning the dirt cups was a pain in the behind. There was the large cyclonic chamber, with two smaller chambers on either side - one containing a washable filter, and the other one being another cyclonic chamber to filter out the finer dust.

I also recall that the machine was only shown on the Eureka website for a brief time, but if one really dug around, could still find it, even if it wasn't on the main page. While the Smart Vac lives on, this variation seemed to fade away quickly. I sold mine after one year or so, and had completely forgotten about it until today. I had some time on my hands today, and searched high and low on the Internet, and haven't been able to turn up any info or photos of the machine.

Out of curiosity, does anyone here have this machine, or remember them?

I always wanted one but they were not available in SA in Bagless, I had the bagged version in our one house and it worked very well but lost so much suction as the bag got to a quarter full. I badly embarrassed a Kirby salesman with my one

...that's the one! Thanks for posting the picture. Ten years or so down the line, I wonder if any are still being used, or have they all gone to that vacuum landfill?

I'm curious - how did you end up embarrassing a Kirby salesman with your bagged Smart Vac?

Kirby salesman

In SA they love to do the salt test, pour salt on the floor, rub it in and vacuum with your old vacuum 10 times and then they will go over with the kirby once and you will see what your old vacuum left behind.

Well I vacuumed but only 4 times , then he vacuumed once, looking puzzled vacuumed twice more , the a fourth time and gues what no salt on his test pad. I have never had a kirby salesman leave my house so fast. I heard a similar story from a customer who owns a windtunnel bagless here. the poor guy didn't know which way to turn

That's a funny story!

I've only experienced one Kirby demo, (and I am going to date myself here) when I was in high school - the machine was the then current Kirby Classic. My parents had wall to wall plush laid about half a year before, and were struggling with an old GE swivel-top Reach Easy straight suction vacuum (that they got when they were married in 1954). Of course the cleaning demo (no salt used there) wowed my parents by what the machine pulled out of the carpeting. I'm not knocking Kirby, I have nine Kirbys - from Classic to Legend II, with a couple of variations thrown in.

I remember them well too, but I've never seen one in person. You know, I was just thinking about them the other day and wondered why they weren't more popular and I tried to look for info and pictures online as well and couldn't find anything either.... so funny!

I think I still have a printed brochure somewhere, but I'd have to dig for it and we can't post brochures anymore due to copyright ( The one in the brochure/pamphlet was maroon.



By the way, when I tried to sell Kirbys, a minister that we were trying to sell to embarrassed us with his bagless Dirt Devil Vision... the original green one... we couldn't get a speck of dirt off his floor with our Kirby Ultimate G! It was awful... we were trying to show him how terrible his vacuum was and it out cleaned ours. We didn't get the sale! I was going to tell him that it was a sin for a minister to have a "dirt devil" vacuum, so he should by the Kirby, but decided not to at the last minute )


I later dated a guy who had a a dirt devil vision (the gold one with dirt sensors that he'd found in the trash) and I brought my Kirby G5 over.... he used to sell Tri-star when he was in college and remembered a trick they used... He put the dirt devil vision hose up to my Kirby hose and turned both machines on and his plastic toy sucked my bag flat! I was so embarrassed! )

Strange...

...that out of the blue, we both were thinking of this vac! The machine that I owned for a while was maroon.

I thought that it did a nice job of cleaning, but at the time, I was living in a tiny house, and maneuvering the beast was a bit awkward. I am a bit anal about my vacuums, and got tired of cleaning the two bins - and that cylindrical filter took forever to dry!

I had the bagged version when I was younger. It was the best vacuum I ever used. It got thrown out in 2007.

I actually own one of these beats!
I purchased it for 40$ at the local flea market,Works well!
But then i decided to tear it down to clean it,And now i am clueless to how to reassemble the dirt sensor mechanism...

And now that i here that they're as rare as hen wigs,I guess I'm out of luck...
Anyone have a diagram?
