Eureka Boss 1934A

I saw at my Habitat Re-Store a black Eureka Boss with the gray bag (I think 1934A). It was $8 and I was wondering if this was a good deal and are these loud runners? I remember Sears selling these in the late 1990s. Just don't know if I want another vacuum.

RUN AND GET IT FOR SURE!!

I have one of these that I put a VGII bruhroll in and it is a great deep cleaner and a daily driver! It is very similar to a Sanitaire and for $8.00 you can't go wrong! I paid $30.00 for mine used and I thought that was a great price.

If it doesn't need much in the way of parts then I'd say go for it as you can get a new one for $100 or so. It's not a very loud machine at all I don't think.

That model is 5 amps and hums pretty quiet, just like an older Eureka does. My Gram has one and about once a month I change the bag and belt. it's amazing how full the bag is when I change it. I would get it!

Go get it! I Used to have one the only part i didn't like was the handle not as sturdy as a metal one but still strong enough

Eureka Boss

The correct answer is all of the above.Just make sure fan is not cracked from nails and pennies.Is a simple repair if it might be.Ever notice how after the first Boss the name went on every series Eureka?And every customer thinks you say "Boss" and automaticly get the right bag?

I will check today if they still have it. I thought about getting a Convertible as well. I think it's neat that Eureka still sells this kind of upright. I think they would sell well if they priced them pretty low and put them in the big box stores as a basic cleaner. Hoover should also make a basic cleaner such as a plastic Convertible or maybe the basic Elite again as an entry level upright below the Tempo.

Does Eureka still make an attachment set for these Boss machines? I saw one on Amazon but wasn't sure if it was still being made.

Well I got it today. I thought about getting one of the Convertibles instead, but it was really busy today and when I asked someone how much it was, he couldn't find the manager and he told me someone told him it would be $12. I thought there's no way I'm paying $12 for a dirty and scratched Convertible, so I got the Eureka instead as it was priced $8.

Habitat is kind of inconsistent with their pricing, but I guess I might try again when I can find the manager.

But the Eureka works, and needs a new belt. I'm cleaning it up now. There was a nail stuck in the beater bar and pretty dusty underneath.

Also does anyone know how to remove the top housing? May be a silly question but I can't tell.

First you need a torx driver to remove the dial-a-nap knob. Once you've done that, remove the two screws holding the hood that are on the underside of the machine and the hood will come right off.

If your vacuum has the grey bag, then it is a 1934B rather than 1934A. That is, unless the bag is a replacement

Thanks for the info mb_1981. Broomvac, sorry, I meant to say this has the speckled white bag.

I took it all apart and washed it yesterday. The outer bag was dirty and had a somewhat full Arm & Hammer bag with date of 2006 on it. I put the outer bag in the washer and left the rubber bellows intact. I was a little wary of doing this, so I checked up on it a few times. It came out very clean and smells much better.

The motor has some rust on top which I need to remove and I want to treat some scratches on the hood and base, but otherwise it looks great. I'll post a pic after I reassemble it.

Hey Cole, Eureka still does make attachment sets I believe for their Sanitaires which fit the Eureka baseplate. I do not recommend these though because when you attach a length of hose to a dirty fan upright, like the Eureka, it cuts down the suction power dramatically. I simply do not recommend using it for bare floors because the suction isn't very strong. I use mine for dusting with the dusting brush when necessary if my lux or central vac isn't near by.

Thanks for letting me know. I wasn't really planning to use it with attachments, but thought it's neat they still make an old style tool set for the Sanitaire vacuums.

Hey Cole - here is a YouTube clip made by someone who, I would bet, is one of us here on Vacuumland!

It shows the new Boss 1934 that Eureka is selling now. Though no VGII like the first ones had, it is wonderful to see that you can still get a relatively inexpense classic Dial-A-Nap Eureka Upright in the year 2012:

Thanks for posting. It looks like it has the same brushroll as mine - two beater bars and two brushes.

Today at Habitat I got 5 Arm & Hammer F&G bags and two belts for $1.50, so I can put this one to use now! It was funny because this vacuum had an Arm & Hammer bag in it when I got it, those were probably donated with it.
