My machine

My machine is a Eureka The Boss, and an answer to your question is Yes. it can be a little challenging, especially changing the carbon brushes. I had to replace the bearing because the fan was sounding very noisy. The top piece was very rusty and the bearings were shot. So I replaced it, and it works fine now, but it does not like brushroll belts. I tried it the first time and it burned the belt right through. Here is a picture: (NOT MY PICTURE)

Those can be re greased, if you have a small enough screw driver you can pry the rubber cap off of the bearing and use silicone bearing grease. I usually pack the grease using a screwdriver into both top and bottom of the bearing, replace caps and rotate the bearing by hand a few times and then you should be good to go. :)

If your belt burned through, replace the pulley that it rides on- over time they wear away until the belt isn't held at the proper tension anymore. The part is only a couple $ and easy to change.
