Eureka 2059A

Hi everyone!

I just bought a Eureka 2059A vacuum, and I have these questions:

1. What was the original style of bag this vacuum came with?
2. What was Eureka's name for the shade of green it comes with?
3. When was this model introduced? Discontinued?
4. Does anyone have any advertising for it?

Wow! One of my favourite Eureka uprights! Top-rated in Consumer Reports tests in 1974 just before Sweden’s Electrolux bought Eureka Williams.

The model number is strange: from the picture, this should be Model 2042 from 1973. If it has Edge Kleener notches on the ends of the steel base plate, it should be model 2043. Model 2042 was also listed as a Best Buy by Consumer Reports, since it performed as well as the deluxe 2082, but was less costly to buy.

The bag is definitely a replacement, the original bag would have had the same pattern but with a plastic “EUREKA” decal in vertical lettering on one side at the top.

Not sure what Eureka called that avocado green colour…I’ll try to find a 2042 spec sheet that may have the name.

Various versions on this classic Eureka have been made through the decades, including a commercial yellow Eureka in the early 2000’s.

Sorry…you ARE getting the original outer bag…Eureka did not add the plastic brand decal to the bags until a few years later.

In 1973, there were two models that seemed very similar: the 2042 and the 2062. The difference may have been the amperage of the motor, or the number of settings on the Dial-a-Nap, or even single-speed versus two-speed…So this model 2059 must be a slightly modified version of either of those.

Thanks…in any case (2053 or 2059), it’s either an improved version of the highly-rated 2042, or a version of the more deluxe 2062 with one or two less features. In any case, one of Eureka’s best products ever sold. Congratulations!

Oh gosh…I really wish I had kept that 1974 edition of CU…maybe someone here at Vacland has one. Eureka models were given top ratings in that report. I remember feeling elated that the company I had hitched my wagon to had done so well. Engraved in my memory are the following pairs of Eurekas:

Uprights:
1. Model 2042 - a Best Buy
2. Model 2082 - deluxe gold Rugulator Cordaway

Power Nozzle Canisters
1. Model 1255 (red Princess) - a Best Buy
2. Model 1265 (orange deluxe Sweet Sixteen)
