My fascination with Eureka vacuums continues with this Model 2010 restoration.  A date on the base casting indicates that it was made in 1973.  I had fun trying to match the paint.  It's not a perfect match to the original, but I think it turned out really well.  The original paint colors were a little softer.

Besides the paint, I made a couple of upgrades.  When I acquired the vacuum, it had a pretty blue "Sunbeam" cord on it.  The cord was only about 10 feet long and was therefore useless.  So I replaced it with this white cord.

It also had a wooden brush roll with plastic beater bars.  I really dislike those things.  They're too prone to crack and become a potential hazard to carpeting.

So I went to a vac store and found this VGI brush roll with the square end caps.  I'm REALLY happy about the brush roll.

The original 3.5 amp motor purrs like a kitten!  I pulled the motor brushes out and they look fairly new.  So I'm guessing the motor was serviced at some point in the recent past.

The original rocker switch operates smoothly and flawlessly too.  One reason I love the older Eureka uprights is because they are unpretentious, uncomplicated, and solid performers.

Beeyooteeful!

Thank you for the date and model specs: good to keep in mind when trying to date similar F&G Dial-a-Nap Eurekas. Now I know that in 1973 - just before the Electrolux takeover - these vacs had yet to be moved over to the 1400 series of model numbers. Also, no hood vents on top yet, and the push button foot switch had not yet replaced the see-saw rocker switch. I also think the wide rubber bumper is a hold-over from the previous decade, whereas post 1974, the 1400 series uprights had narrow bumpers.

Thanks for this valuable history lesson!

I used to have a push-button 2010, sure do miss it! Lovely restoration, what are you going to do with all these refurbished Eurekas, anyhow?

What do I plan to do?

Thank you all for the kind words!  And what do I plan to do with all the Eurekas?  I guess I'll keep them!  Along the way, I suspect I'll give some away (those that are less vintage).  A big part of my joy in collecting is working on what I have.  That's why I don't consider myself a collector of modern vacuums.

Eureka Restoration

Eurekastar! That is a great restoration! I recently posted about my find, a similar model in a green/gold. It did not come with the brushroll though. Many tried to help me with a replacement, but I kept running into dead ends. I did finally get a wooden roll and it seems to work well but I understand that it can reduce the airflow? I really wanted the one you have with the "twist" . Mine is also very quite and smooth and is a two speed
Is there a possibility you might knwo where another brush roll can be found?
Thanks for posting. Love th Eurekas!

Your best luck for finding Eureka/Sanitaire VGI brush rolls with the square end caps is go into old vacuum shops and ask.  Some of those guys have piles of that stuff laying around.  Just keep trying.

WOW THAT LOOKS GREAT!!! To me the color looks spot on you did a great job, that is a good year for the Eureka uprights. I have a 1968 the same color but with a head light, when I use to use it on a daily basis I upgraded it to a ST bag setup.
