Eureka 1432A/Eureka Budget uprights

Hi!

I bought this Eureka 1432A from a nice woman in Eugene, OR. I just put a new brushroll from Amazon in, and it works like a breeze now! It cleaned up beautifully!

I'm guessing this was a budget upright, as it lacks a headlight, and only has a two-position Dial-a-Nap. I'm curious about earlier versions of this particular machine--if I remember correctly, this basic design dates to 1947. Does anyone have photos of similar machines from other decades?

Nice Eureka there!

Indeed, the basic design goes back to the Eureks Williams "Automatic" upright of the 1950's - you may be right about 1947!

But the motor hood profile of these classic Eureka uprights changed a bit in the early 1970's. Before 1970, the profile was more "squashed" down and flatter - even the front and sides of the base had a smoother profile that curved downward right above the rubber bumper. After that year, the profile became a little taller and more angular, and air vents appeared on the sides of the hood.

That's definitely a design with staying power. It also was the basis of the Sanitaire uprights as you can see from this photo of my green 1982 Eureka ESP upright (center), red 1979 Sanitaire commercial upright (left) and blue 2012 Sanitaire professional upright (right). They're all basically the same machine.
