I just got a Eureka 1406 upright, and I would love to learn more about it. I'd love to see photos of other budget model Eurekas, especially with 2 position Dial-A-Nap.
The great thing about many of Eureka's budget uprights is that they often excelled in deep carpet cleaning in Consumer Reports tests.
The basic Eureka "The Boss" Dial a Nap upright (see link below) aced Consumer Reports carpet cleaning tests when it was on the market in the early 1990's and I think it was listed as a "Best Buy" with a price of around $100. In those days, Consumer Reports did not test uprights for bare floor cleaning or hose cleaning with optional attachments - only carpet cleaning. So for $100 you could get an excellent carpet cleaner from Eureka.
A few years later, Consumer Reports gave an excellent carpet cleaning score to Eureka's basic Bravo "bag in the front" upright. It also was listed as a Best Buy at around $100.
