Epic 6000 parts

Does anyone know where I might find the dial that is part of the cleaning selector which is missing from my machine? I've looked on eBay a few times and other websites but I haven't come across one yet.

I found this machine in the trash about four years ago while I was driving through my friends neighborhood late one night as we were about to go out with friends for the evening. It's the nicest and one of the few vacs I've ever found at the curb. It had even been services by the local Aerus dealer, has a newer genuine Lux plastic hose and a newer inner sheath wand, and even the pn was in great shape too. The only problem with the machine when I found it was that the hose was clogged which is probably why they threw it out. Anyway, the machine works wonderfully and has never given me a problem over the years, I just don't like that the dial is missing. It's amazing what some people throw away because they can't take a moment to try and solve such an easy problem...

Try Aerus directly for the part

Don't know if you can still get the original color or not, an Aerus dealer would have to enter the part number into their F.O.A.S. system to see if it is still available. If not available the system will most likely give you a substitute number to use, which could be anything from the oyster colored one, to the current color in use.

You should be able to find a used one if you visit a few Aerus branches. The color you are looking for is taupe if the new one is not still avail from FOAS out of Bristol.

When I posted this originally I thought maybe someone knew where I could find the part online but since the only option seemed to be a Lux dealer, I just assumed that they would not have the right color to match my machine. I guess I should have asked that question here months ago. Honestly I had forgotten about the part for a while. I only seem to think about it when I use the machine, which is not that often. I love the Electrolux but the central vacuum does 99% of the cleaning in my house. There is a Lux dealer in my town and I drive by it nearly every day, it's actually located in the shopping center next to my work. I just haven't gotten around to going in to inquire about the knob. I'm off for the next few days so maybe I'll stop in to see if they have or can order the part. Thanks for all the info!

I probably should post this somewhere else but there was talk about the airflow with the motor in the Epic 6000/6500 and the latest machines recently in another thread. I bought a Lux Classic several years ago for my boyfriends house and that machine has the newer style single stage motor and more suction power. However when I was recently using my 6000 I noticed that the dirt seemed to be sucked into the floor nozzle from a further distance away and with greater ease, then when using the Classic. I use the Classic weekly and I never really paid attention to this before but it's a considerable difference. Same style genuine Electrolux combo floor tool, genuine Lux wands, genuine Lux vinyl hoses on both, and Perfect HEPA bags in each machine. Each machine is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic shape, the Classic was probably only used about 2 dozen times by the original owner. I took the Classic apart to disinfect it when I purchased it and I remember thinking the motor was so much smaller and much lighter weight then I have seen in any other Electrolux canister I've ever owned. I'd rather have the added weight and less suction power if it means having greater overall cleaning ability.

Airflow (cfm) is what cleans a surface; & the Epic 6000's two-stage motor provides more cfm than the single-stage motor from the Lux Classic

I don't know if the 2-stage motor will fit in the Classic?

btw I found the 'automatic control' knob on eBay but its been some time ago

I'm in the same situation as the OP. I rescued a Diplomat LX from beside a dumpster a couple of months ago and I'm missing that same selector knob. I've got the bag eject control disconnected until such time as I can find one and it's running just fine that way, so It's not exactly a dire emergency. I'm guessing that's what landed the machine by the dumpster.

A clogged hose landed one of my 1205s at the curb back around 1981. Unfortunately, unclogging it didn't help its performance much. It was only after rescuing it from my parents' attic in 2016 that it achieved its full potential with a vinyl replacement hose and a power nozzle attached. It did not originally have the latter accessory, as evidenced by its original un-powered (and very leaky) hose.

I live two blocks away from a habitat for humanity restore location.
If you get a knob off a dimmer switch? If it's a loose fit wrap in Teflon tape.
Im just thinking of items that would work.
Im looking around a plastic on off switch off a lamp, the circular knob off a pedastool fan. The knob off a stove. Knob off a cabinet or drawer. The dial off an old radio.
I didn't have a copper static lead for my silver rainbow. The carbon brush housing on a parts rainbow was all copper double layered. I I unrolled the circular piece flat and clipped the bottom section to fit the bearing. I made the static strip out of the brush housing.
Im just throwing ideas out there. The static part would take 2 weeks to come and I needed it asap. I sold the vacuum the next day and it work great.

That won’t work

A dimmer knob, or stove knob won’t work because the way the knob connects to the dial inside it has to have a long shaft to go inside.

Since your Aerus dealer is nearby, go in, and ask the guy if he has one in the right color too by chance. I do know that putting the knob on the dial has to be far enough down otherwise the knob will ride up and miss the stop and eventually come off. When I got my Lux Legacy this was happening, but I was able to figure out what was wrong, the automatic control dial inside with the numbers on it had to be oriented far enough down when the top knob was put on so the lower inner dial could ride up and down the shaft of the upper knob but not push the upper knob up and out past it’s click stop holding it down and in place level.

Also, so you know...The proper knob doesn’t have numbers on it...just 7 dimples in graduated sizes. The largest dimple is the “coarse dirt” most sensitive setting (number 1j and the smallest dimple is the “fine dirt” (number 6) less sensitive setting. With 7 dimples though, you can set the dial at a true middle “medium dirt” setting of 3 1/2 by using the exact 4th dimple in from either extreme which is what is recommended in the instructions for regular daily cleaning for average household dirt. If you have shedding pets use a lower number or larger dimple setting. If you have a lot of fine powdery dirt such as tracking in a lot of dirt from a dry dusty dirt from outside, use a smaller dimple or higher numbered setting.

I recommend getting the proper dial for the machine from Aerus...they still make that exact knob on the current Lux Legacy so there should be no problem getting one and it shouldn’t cost that much. You have a very nice machine there and if it works quite well, a few bucks to complete it is worth every penny since these machine new run over $1000 currently.

Suction between the Classic and your machine could also have been affected by how much dirt was in either machine's bags. Perform the test again with a fresh unused bag in each machine. I do notice the suction gradually does go down as the bag fills with dirt...and if fine dirt is sucked up early, it can clog the bags pores reducing suction even with very little dirt in the bag. For example if you start with a fresh bag and suck up Sheetrock dust the bag will clog quickly.
