Thanks for the heads up about replacing the felt gasket ; I wouldn't want to waste the money and then have all that trouble.
I wish I would have taken photos of the process of installing the Heritage II fill tube in the 500-series sani-emptor, but unfortunately , I have never posted pics on this forum before. I used a hacksaw to cut the top part of the plastic mini-emptor and then cut that top part in three different places in order to fit inside the wide opening of the old sani-emptor. I found an old plastic cereal bowl in which the bottom fit perfectly inside the top wide round opening ; so I cut it off to fit. Then I cut a hole in that plastic circular piece for the filltube(first measuring the width of the hole). The top piece cut from the mini-emptor with filltube was then attached to the circular piece. I drilled one hole for a small short screw to secure the two pieces together. Alot of silicone caulk was used for a tight seal around the edges and to secure it in place on both sides top and bottom. I cut a round piece of corrigated cardboard to fit around the top base and filltube , then used alot of duct tape to secure everything and for more of a seal. Before I did all this ; the old metal emptor was washed inside and wirebrushed to get rid of decades of crud. I guess this could be called "redneck engineering"- as I had previously stated , this was crudely done but it works quite well. Plastic mini-emptors can be expensive to replace -from previous experience. The plastic where the rubber gasket is glued to is too thin and cracks. Finally, to get rid of the silicone smell when vacuming; I put some vanilla scent on the paper disposable bag.
