Elux Power Nozzle Question

I was servicing a PN 1 power nozzle the other day and found that the screw holes holding the plastic cover onto the metal mounting plate have been stripped out. The screws don't really tighten down and the cover buzzes when the power nozzle is in use. Does anyone have a solution to the problem? I've thought of finding over sized screws of the same length or breaking off plastic tooth picks and putting them down into the holes so the screws have a little more to bite into. That works with wood!

Some hot glue dripped into the holes with a hot glue gun will usually restabilise stripped threads in plastic; drip it in, let it harden, re-drive the screws. Fast and easy. How-evah:

PN-1s are still plentiful and cheap; you'll probably do better to hold out for a nicer example with no repairs. As you collect, it's a good idea to remember that ingenious repairs bring a lot of personal satisfaction, but factory-perfect stuff is what buyers want. This can be very important if you ever want - or need - to sell off anything from your collection. If two vacs look the same, but one has detectable repairs and one doesn't, the difference in desirability - and price - can be huge. You may think your collection is only for your personal satisfaction, but as I know from personal experience, a collection can help a lot in times of financial distress. I lost a job in 2001, and my china and flatware collections saved my butt.

Hot Glue!

That makes a lot of sense! Not being a very "crafty" person, I've never owned a Hot Glue Gun. Though, I once had a girlfriend who could build a car with hers. She was kind of weird because she'd carry that thing in her purse! LOL! Seriously! But I don't plan to call and ask to borrow it. She might hurt me with it! Thanks for the advice on collecting. I never even knew people collected vacuum cleaners until a few months ago. I inherited my Grandmother's Electrolux Model XXX earlier this year and did some minor refurbishing on it. It didn't require much, but I got it looking pretty new. So I showed a friend what I had done. A couple of weeks later, he brought me a bunch of Electrolux Vacuums that he salvaged from a house that was slated for demolition. I've been spending the last few months cleaning them up, repairing, and learning about them. People on this site have really been nice about sharing advice and information, including you! Again, thank you so much!

I read your profile and I too owned a Model L years ago. It was given to me by the same Grandmother from whom I inherited the Model XXX. She bought it at a garage sale for $5 and gave it to me right after I finished Graduate School back in 1991. I had no money and no vacuum. It was brown with the PN. I used it for about three years and got a lot of use out of it. It got to where it wasn't cleaning well, so I call the Electrolux number in the phone book. To make a long story short, I ended up buying an UltraLux from them and traded that Model L. I wish I still had it, since my Grandmother gave it to me. But I didn't have the sense then to know that all it probably needed was a new hose and/or brush roll for the PN. That Model L was brown with a halo cord holder. I'm kind of sentimental so I'd like to find a brown one again. One of the vacs that my friend gave me from the demoed house is a cream/turquoise Model L with cord winder. It's in almost perfect shape like it was barely ever used.
