VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

I have the '89 and where the handle is placed is actually very smart. It makes it very easy to stand the unit on its end and your other hand is not free if you are carrying the hose or other tools. If the handle was further to the rear so that the unit would be parallel to the floor, it would make it much more difficult to stand it on its end....2 hands would be required. Also, with the handle near the front and this causing the vac to be carried at a slant, it makes it easier to carry the vacuum up stairs, since the slant of the vacuum matches the angle of the stairs.

Hi Gary:

That is the first version of the model 88 (1957-63). If you look at the serial number it will give you the production date (The first digit is the year eg: 8 would be 1958).

They were well before power nozzles came out in Canada but could be retrofitted with a new handle containing the outlet if you wanted to add one when they were introduced.

Email me after Christmas when I have time to do some looking. I may have a spare copy of the manual. I do have the repair manuals as well.
