I have a few of them.

One is new out of box, and, I still have the box! A friend gave it to me, saying, "You have to have a fresh one". Some of mine are not in the 'collection', a they need some attention.
Last week, during my N. Canton pilgrimage, I was given black and white photos taken at their launch, by the art department at HOOVER. I almost died when they were placed in my hands!

In reply 20, the Hoover elite two, with the side mounted attachments. My grandma had one and gave it to us when I was little because my moms Singer broke.

I have yet to find one exactly like the one she had. I absolutely loved that vacuum. I still do. I have seen many other elites, but I can't seem to find that one.

bagintheback...

That Legacy ll in your reply 22 is the same one off the 1993 nobody does it like you advert, I was trying to distinguish which Hoover it was and obviously that was the one.

the commercial

i have the british version of the elite the hoover dual purpose commercial looks the same as the one in alex's picture but has no headlight somewhere i lost the tools as well ho hum if anyone can help there please let me know

Alex,

The Legacy you are talking about is actually a different one. The one featured in the advertisement has Hoover written in big 'bubble' letters. I actually have that machine. I'll post a picture of the exact one either tonight or tomorrow.

Sebofan,

The Asian appliance shop folded, it is now a solicitors I think. There was also a great little shop on Old Dalkeith Road that specialised in vacuum repair and recon models, he has also now closed. The only other vacuum repair shops I know of in Edinburgh are the Hoover shop on Leith walk, a vacuum repair shop past Meadowbank near Jocks Lodge and a small vac shop just past Fountain Bridge Cinema complex. Sad to say not many people send their vacuums for a yearly service any more as they did when I was a child, when it breaks it gets junked and a new one bought.

Anyway, back to the thread!!! I like the look of the ELITE'S but the Legacy, to me, is a thing of beauty! I wish I had grabbed one when they were in Makro.

BTW, please fee free to drop me an email anytime.

Wow guys :)

It amazes me at how many they made that look exactly the same. or the same but with little tiny tweaks to them. I just wanna collect em all. cuz they elites are sexy. :D LOL

from 1990

That picture of the Legacy 730(or 780?) series is the exact machine we used to have in our basement for cleaning the area rugs down there. Never seen one exactly like it until seeing this add now.. Also never knew until right before it died in 2001 that it came with a hose and attachments, because they where buried in the basement for years. Was there a reason that model didn't have an attachment caddy? or was that the transition between the hose converter and on-board tools? And can anyone inform me as to the manufacturing run of this particular machine?

Seeing those pics brought back lots of memories for me. My grandmother had the green Elite Supreme, and I can remember that box when she got it. I had a maroon Legacy with the onboard tools and hard bag cover as well. Both machines still worked when we sold them. I liked them, though I thought even the 7.5 amp machines were fairly loud. I didn't ever see a Legacy with that clear cover over the tool storage or a Legacy without onboard tools so those were interesting to see.

I see Elites often at the thrift stores, but nearly always missing the attachments and/or hose.

Sorry it took so long to post this. This is the Hoover Legacy Supreme that was featured in the 1993 Hoover Advertisement commercial. I was lucky to find one with all of the attachments and in decent condition. I didn't bother making it look new because I actually use this a lot. It's definitely my favorite 'Elite' that I own.

They are pretty much the same, except they claim it has a 7.1 amp motor instead of the later 12 amp motor, & it has a long commercial cord.

Here is a video of a hard-body Commercial Elite with on-board tools from GoVacuum. They REALLY bashed the Elite in this video! Surprising they carry it if they hate it that much....

I wish I could!

I do have a hoover elite that runs like a charm. Unfortunately, I've had to replace it, and it needs to go into the dump. Why? Well, the name I wrote on the pic might be a clue. But yes, every time you use it, it smells like vomit. Thank my husband's alcoholic friend for that one.
I'm quite sad that I can't take it to goodwill and give it a nice home, but due to its... shortcomings, well...

Another Hoover Legacy. My grandmom owned the top post the blue Hoover Elite Supreme. She moved and the buyers want it, it's probably 18 years old. Could use a new agitator and the cord has a couple of Boo-Boo's with electrical tape but it works.

I refurbished this Hoover Legacy and sold it. Good machine.

I was so ANGRY after i watched this video!!! Mostly because I was the one that kept requesting for this video and i was so excited to watch this video when they put it up and after i saw it i was so ANGRY at GoVacuum because of what they said about the Elites. I mean for gosh sakes the Elites were GREAT vacuums and they still are!! Ughh after that video i never saw GoVacuum the same way again.

Mom's U4617-930 - Bad Bearings?

While this topic is still active, I want to say that even after my dad had done an extensive teardown and rebuild of his wife's 1994 Hoover Elite U4617-930, that it sounded as loud as it ever did. Because of that, I repeat my assertion that it is the bearings, and because they are not serviceable, the whole motor assembly must go.

Therefore, how much would a new motor assembly for this '94 U4617-930 be? From the HESCOInc.com website, it is part #43576142. My question is, are these motor assemblies 12 amps as opposed to the original 7.2 amp motor?
