Elites and Bravos and Fantoms, OH MY

Back in 1991 John Lucia came to Los Angeles for a visit. As we chatted, I jokingly commented that the day may come when people would consider Eureka Bravos and Hoover Elites to be vintage vacuum cleaners. We both laughed at the absurdity of that, little realizing just how prescient that comment actually was.

Well the same happens with cars. The Plymouth Superbird was regarded as a commercial failure when it first came out, nobody wanted it, dealers would actually strip the spoiler and nose cones off just to sell them because they would rot on the lot.
Now, they are half a million dollar cars.

I actually seen a Hoover Elite though at the Habitat Restore, but it didn't look too exciting to me, wish I had tho, I've heard nothing but good things about them.

What's a phantom? I've never heard of phantom before.

I used to laugh at them too. Who would be stupid enough to collect a pos elite? Or that horrible Bravo. We used to throw them away, and even smash them with sledge hammers before we threw them into the dumpster. Those machines were everywhere and always broken down.

Never a more accurate statement has been made! I wanted to cry when I first saw the build quality (or lack thereof) of the Hoover Elite vs. the soon to be phased out venerable Convertible. The Bravos and Elites were just cheap copycats of the Oreck. Because they WERE so flimsy (as was the Regina Housekeeper and Dirt Devil uprights) they're somewhat rare nowadays.

its all in perspective

When Tom Anderson first met Stan Kann, tom had a display of 50's hoovers at the 100th anniversary hoover convention. stan said "look at all this new crap" in reguards to a model 63. its well known stan didnt care for anything made after WWII

its all in perspective. how many metal based convertibles, which are cherished and desired now, were simply thrown out or relagated to the basement when they were "outmoded"?

i dont care for anything made after 1980 or so with little exception, but plenty of people do, any they can enjoy it. and ill enjoy and specialize in what i like.

I am with Dysonman-see too many Elites in dumpsters-just let the trash truck compactor smash them-the crunching plastic sound in the truck hopper is sort of delightful!
