Hello!

I'm posting in hopes that some wonderful vintage vacuum lover here may have some fruitful advice for me regarding my beloved Electrolux Automatic E. It has always worked very well until recently when, on occasion (and occasions becoming more frequently over time), the motor would start rather sluggishly. When it is cold and hasn't been run for several days it will start but run very slowly for the first 10-20 seconds, then after a brief time it gets up to normal speed. Just today as I was switching rooms and power outlets it wouldn't turn on at all for a few moments after being plugged in. There is no problem with the wall outlet, plug, or cord to the vacuum. It did start back up again a short while later but with even more sluggishness than I've ever seen before. There are no other strange sounds except for the slow start of the motor. Any advice out there? I'm pretty handy but don't know much about electric motors. I'd be keen to take it to a reputable repair shop if anyone can recommend one in the eastern Massachusetts area. I'm in Mendon MA.

Thanks everyone!

I have a Auto F

That has had the same problem in the past, 25 years or so ago, I know because it was my next door neighbors, .....If you will get new motor brushes it should fix the problem, the brushes are sticking in the holders and arcing, when it runs a few seconds and they heat up they work fine..Sounds odd but that's what was wrong with Hers.We finally figured out that the closet was damp that the vacuum stayed in.
