Hi, everyone.

I picked up two Electrolux uprights recently and had a question about output filters. The two vacs are a Prolux and an Epic 3500.

I noticed that the Prolux has no provision for an output filter. It simply has a rectangular exhaust port. The 3500 has a plastic frame set on top of the port which allow the use of a thin output filter. My question is, can the Prolux be retrofitted so that it can use filters?

I want to use the Prolux for light cleaning in rental units. I'd feel much more secure knowing the air I'm breathing is just a little cleaner by having a exhaust filter (who knows what's in those carpets?).

Otherwise, I'd considering using the 3500, instead, for light commercial cleaning as both seem to be essentially the same vacuum save for the cord and filter (and the rocker vs. slide switch, in my case).

What do you think?

Thanks!

You can buy the filter kits (the plastic holder that permanently stays on the exhaust port + a filter) from Aerus/Electrolux. I have an Epic 3500 and Discovery III (with the older sliding switch) and I love them. I suppose, in a commercial setting, you might benefit from the longer cord on the Prolux, but I believe it has the same motor as the Epic 3500.

Does the brown colored side loading after filter start kit work with the Discovery III? My grandma has one and wants to have the filtration improved if at all possible. It doesn't say on Aerus's supply store.

As far as I know, the regular after filter kit should work on any of the uprights, except for the few models that have front-loading filters. Seems as if the only colors available are blue and gray, though.

Thanks...

Sounds good. I did a search and also found them available through several vacuum retail sites. They seem to run around $17-22 for the kit, which includes the frame and one filter. Don't know if that includes shipping or not.

Lol, that's about 5 times what I paid for each of my Electroluxes.

Thanks for the info. There's no Hepa kit for the older vacs, is there? Maybe that would kill the suction too much, come to think of it. With the marginal suction and all.

Hmm...not sure about the HEPA, but they look like they fit on the same as the regular filters. As you say, they might not be suitable for the older motors. When you think about it, with the 4-ply bags + after filter, the filtration is already pretty good, and some of the models have a foam motor pre-filter to catch anything that might escape the bag.

Joyous Electroluxing to all, and to all an Epic night.
