Electrolux Upright Motor Problem

I’ve recently had two Electrolux Uprights in my possession with bad motors in them. A couple of hours ago I purchased a Genesis LX off of craigslist and came home to find out that the main suction motor is shot. Guess people think that if the brush spins and the vacuum makes a noise it is working.

When I took apart the motor one of the springs that connects the carbon brush to one of the windings completely disintegrated I tried to make it have contact with the carbon brush holder, but no luck. I think one of the windings in the motor is broken. The inside of the motor looks corroded to me. Did motors in the uprights fail often or is it just my bad luck?

Carbon brushes appear to be in good shape. I've already tested the switch and it is working. So it has to be the motor. The rest of the vacuum is in good shape. It must have been stored in a damp area. Electrolux didn't make it easy to pull out the carbon brushes. It appears that the holder has to be replaced along with the brushes. Just a guess. I know just enough to be dangerous! LOL

Some Moronic Vacuumer...

Has likely used the Electrolux Home Cleaning Unit as a way to suck-up water, I've seen this plenty of times before- Either left in the rain or used as a wet-pickup vacuum cleaner, Once case I remember being a Hoover Windtunel that was completely corroded senseless.

I don't think so. Unless they used the hose attachment. The motor spins freely and the brush roll motor works with no problem. I've seen slight rust on motors before. It may have been stored in a damp basement. Something is not making good contact.
