So I'm wondering what the differences are between the Electrolux upright models 1451 & 1451E (tan version). The only one I can see is that the "change bag" light was moved from the upper casing (1451) to the base (1451E). Does anyone know why Electrolux did that?

eBay photos (the first two are the 1451):

I talked with a retired vacuum cleaner store owner, and he thinks that the 1451E had the electronic shut-off along with the shining light when the bag became full, but the 1451 did not (only the light shone). He thought the light was moved to the base, so it would be close to the transistor.

He also mentioned that both versions had the classic Electrolux "lock-out" function--they would not run without filter bags installed.

Do any of the Electrolux L-shaped uprights have the automatic bag full shut-off feature? I know they have the lock-out and blockage features.

Thanks. I'm wondering which ones exactly have the feature? I don't think any of the Epics did. Maybe Lux 3000 and after?

Good to know--thanks.

What did the suction regulator do? Did it just make the light shine? Since Regency's were sold in premium stores, I'm wondering what the first direct sales model had the auto shut-off? It's hard to understand why they eliminated the feature after the 1451E then decided to bring it back. Maybe they didn't think customers wanted it.

So the Lux 3000 and 4000 were the first L-shaped with the auto shut-off, right?

Thanks! I didn't realize that there was an indicator instead of a light. So, the light must be on those units that have the electronic shut-off, correct?

Yes, that's correct. The electronic shut-off was added to the Model 1451E. Your photo appears to be the harvest gold color of Electrolux Corporation's original upright, Model 1363 of October 1977 through April 1978. The second version was tan, and that was followed by the Model 1451 (which included some upgrades).

Update

The 'E' stands for 'Enhanced'. The bag light was relocated to the base and I think the duct was enlarged (going by memory). The users manual has no mention of an electronic shut-off feature.
