Hello,
I have an Ultralux in great shape that works fine except for the top handle has come loose at the back. When the handle moves to the side I can see the screw which has dropped down, but needs to be re-screwed from underneath.
My question is how best to do this? Do I really have to take the whole machine apart to fix this one screw?
Not that mechanical here, so it's a bit daunting. Thanks in advance for any advice.

It's pretty easy to take that top cover off. There is a screw up front and under the blower door I believe and the top comes right off. It's probably stripped though

Only a small problem

There are 2 screws at front handle,2 under blower cover, loosen all 4 leaving in holes, tilt top panel up carefully without pulling switch wires loose, find & replace loose screw, put all back with with wires following original positions. Not likely to be problems with first loose screw but if so parts/repair easily found.

Really strange, but an observation I've noticed... lots of blue handle 1521 Electrolux models have loose or broken handles on Ebay. I noticed this when I purchased mine. Generally speaking, the Diamond Jubilee and Marquise 1521 models with the same style handle never show up broken or loose on Ebay, but the later (newer) Ultralux and Grand Marquise with the blue handle are more frequently busted. I wonder if the plastic was changed a little.

Anyways, like others have said, removing the top panel cover is easy... you won't have to disassemble the whole machine. If the threads seem stripped and the screw is still loose, I would suggest maybe using plumber's tape on the threads. Good luck!

Sometimes different pigments can affect the strength of a plastic part. I don't know if it's the case here but I do know it's an issue with the burgundy colored plastics on the Kirby G5. That's why many of them, including mine, have a mismatched back panel on the handle. The lower cord hook on the burgundy ones have greater tendency to break than the same part in other colors.
