Electrolux Trade In Value?

Hi everyone. Lately I've decided to take over my sister's vacation home. I'll be renting it out and assuming most responsibility for it since she's likely only to visit about twice per year. I have a central vacuum in my own house so I can't take it over to clean the vacation house when needed.

I do have an Electrolux 6500 which is a grey color that belonged to my grandmother. I think it's probably from around 1996. It's missing all attachments except for the power nozzle. The hose has a slight kink and the wands separate pretty easily. Buying a new hose, wands, and attachments look to be pretty expensive. Aside from that the machine runs and looks great. I was thinking it may be a better value to trade it in on a new Electrolux or I think they call it Aerus now. Looking at the website it looks like the Legacy canister would be a good match for my needs.

With the kink in the hose and the missing attachments will this machine bring any sort of good trade in value? If so I may take it and make a visit to the local dealer in town. I may also have my girlfriend take it to the location in Orlando too since she works in Orlando and see what they might offer.

Talk to Don or DJ over at the Orlando store. They should work you a pretty good deal on a new legacy. I have a Legacy that is 10 years old now that I use at our cabin in the north Ga mountains. Never had a days problem with it.
Trade in without the attachments and in need of a new hose may not be worth all that much but you should be able to get at least 100 for it as the motor probably has a lot of good years left in it since it is an Aerus Electrolux.

Thank you luxman107. I'm planning on going to the Orlando location this week.

I went to the Daytona Beach location and I wasn't impressed with the sales representative. I first asked him to look over the machine and tell me what condition it is in. He said it was fine except it needed a new hose and brush roll. He then quoted me a price of $362 to replace those hose, brush roll, and "general maintenance"!

I also never got a clear price on any of the new machines and was never quoted a trade in value. He said anything in the store ranged from $1,000 on up. I told him I was surprised and figured the dealers had discretion in pricing since there were no msrp's or advertised prices available. He quickly corrected me that it was just not the case. Later, he then offered the bottom of the line machine for $899. And then as I was getting ready to leave he then decided he could possibly let the bottom of the line machine go for $799. I was nice and told him I'd sleep on my choices and then I got out of there.

I am sure you can get a legacy for 799 so stick to your guns. That is too high for the classic model.

Just curious if you've really thought about just rebuilding the Electrolux you have? There is an excellent aftermarket hose that costs around $60. Virtually identical to the genuine. You can obtain a new brush roller for the Power Nozzle for about $25. A new post-motor filter is about $3. You can now use HEPA Cloth disposable bags in your machine. They cost $15 for a pack of six. A vac shop can sell you virtually new attachments. Shouldn't cost more than $20 for the three. That would make your machine just as good as a brand new one, as you've replaced all the wear parts. For less than $150. Unless you really want a brand new one, there's no advantage a new one would hold over your old one if your old one was rebuilt.

This is a summation of the status of <span style="text-decoration: underline;">most</span> Lux franchises today. They are significantly struggling.  My store is not the cheapest store, and even at full retail, a hose, brushroll and "general maintenance" would only run around $150 bucks.  


 


Find an independent store.  Irby and Stuchman is a wonderful store down there- tell Johnny that Christopher from Vacuums Etc. in Columbia sent you.  They will take very good care of you and your machine.
