Electrolux that I don't know anything about

Help Support VacuumLand:

Thanks guys..... yeah I'm really grateful for the help! I love having people to share the hobby with! I've started polishing half the machine and it's looking great but my hands and fingernails are black! I think I'm going to have to get the dremel out because I can't quite get it shiny enough by hand. The part that covers the cord on the machine has the paint scratched really bad and I may want to try to repaint it if I can match the color.

Thanks again guys!

Awesome find, Bobby! I personally think the LX was the most beautiful Electrolux made. The Turquoise G is a close second, but there's just something so wonderful of the look of the LX - Especially with the Yellow and Red nameplate. I have an old beater LX that I keep and use in the garage, and for vacuuming out the cars, it has the chrome nameplate, not the red/yellow. The ejector still works, it's fun setting the dial down to a lower setting and being surprised when it shuts off, pops open, and shoots the bag out. I also have one with the red/yellow nameplate, but it's not in the greatest condition. I think the whole ejector mechanisim was removed at some point, but I'll have to double check.

I've always had a soft spot for the LX - when I was really litte, I know my next door neighbor had an LX that she used for dusting and other above the floor cleaning. It was kept on the floor of a closet, under a series of shelves -- at the end of the hallway. She also had a green Eureka 2091 ESP that was for cleaning her carpets (which is where my love for that machine comes form as well). I so distinctly remember the switch on the Lux, how it "rolled" to turn on and off - completely different than any other switch.

I would love to find a more minty one someday. I'm sure it's been posted here before, but Tania has one of the most beautiful specimens of an LX that I've ever laid eyes on. It looks like it just came out of the box.

I agree with Alex, it's awesome that others with parts and advice are coming out to assist you. To build on what Alex has already said -- there have been many threads about rebuilding the LX, I know Aeoliandave posted a very comprehensive thread about how the mechanism works at one point. You'll have to do some digging.

Thanks for sharing, I look forward to following your progress!

Hi Fred.

Thanks for the kind words. The thread with Dave doing the repair you mentioned is lux 30/XXX tools,( 1/3/ 2013, posted by powermate1970) that's why I directed Bobby there.  I looked it up and what you want are replies 86, 87, and 88. It's a busy day here, so I have to run, more tonight when the Christmas shopping is done.  Perhaps we can reopen that thread so all our members can see it again and wander down memory lane.

May you and Robert have a Happy New Year,  and yes, I will be at the Kirby convention in June. More later.

Hi Vacuumfreeke

Try Never-dull magic wadding, it's great! Also use Mothers car polish. After a light treatment with both plus some Windex for the leatherette, my LX shines like a new penny. And I dust the cord with talc to help it retract better.

By the way, the cord winder will not lock when standing on end. Pull out the amount you need before you use it, and set it back on the runners to retract.

Got to run, last minute shopping at my grocery store for last of the Christmas baking tonight.

Hi Vacuumfreeke

Just checked this entire thread before heading out.

Your lever to trip the ejector is frozen with rust, or simply tight due to age. reply's 86, 87, and 88 will walk you through it, or you can wait till Kirbykid get's you what you need.  If you do decide to repair. DONT have your fingers near the ejector when it pops!

Hi Vacuumfreeke

Here's a quote from the book 'Electrolux the first 40 years' published in 1964.

"The way Electrolux does things-the Electrolux way-quality all the way-is reflected in it's meetings and gatherings. This notable one in the Waldorf in 1952 heralded the introduction of the Worlds First Automatic Vacuum Cleaner, the famous Model LX. This scene and others like it have been repeated many times in the four decades of Electrolux history. It is interesting to note that 12 years later Electrolux is still the world's only automatic vacuum cleaner."
