Oh I wanted

My mother to buy one of these new!! I begged and begged, Nothing doing, 379.00 was way too much for a vacuum to her mind, so for 208.00 she bought a Hoover Celebrity 2 Powermatic that I DESPISED!!!!

Love mine!

Hi Keith!

Loving my HPR! Using it now more than any other vac for my weekly deep cleaning, and light touch ups too.

I noticed on the ad you showed, which is super cool, btw, it says that Electrolux is a Consolidated Foods Company.. know anything about that? Seems a strange conglomerate to absorb a vacuum company. Wonder how long they owned it and what changes happened during that period.

Hope all is well!

Bill

P.S. Scratch that.. just looked up the attached article. I do know that today Sara Lee owns Coach and Kate Spade in addition to their wonderful Coffee Cake in the freezer section! ;-)

Consolidated Foods

Bought Electrolux at the end of the G or the beginning of the 1205 and had them a good many years.

I actually very recently acquired this model! This is my first (working) Lux canister I've ever owned, and so far I really like it! Quiet, and works well.

I bought this one because it seemed to be in good condition, and came with a storage hassock (which I know little about, so I don't know if it's original.. it seems original). The rear wheels appear to have yellowed, so maybe I'll try to brighten them up.

Although in good outer condition, the original hose leaks suction. I bought a new generic matching hose, and a new belt for the power nozzle. With a good hose, the machine has more suction than I was expecting. Now it runs and cleans great! I may get some HEPA bags too, but the genuine vintage bags it came with seem nicer than usual.

Here's the full kit

Thanks Kenkart, I will get a pack of those and try them out.

Aside from a wipedown, I haven't done much with the storage hassock. I won't pretend I know how the tools are to supposed to store under the lid. It appears someone added cheap plastic carrying handles to the sides of it at one point, which I didn't trust when getting it home (the whole vac inside the hassock is pretty heavy!).

Anyone have any tips on restoring/cleaning the outside material? It's pretty brittle vinyl-esque material, and I would like to soften it up if I can. Sadly it already has one small crack, but none of the material has chipped away yet.

Nice hassock...

Looks like vintage Naugahide to me and in pretty good shape. It's fairly durable as long as you don't leave it in direct sunlight. UV rays will make it brittle. That thing would be a goner in my house with two cats who still have their claws.

You think the Super J is quiet -- that really made me chuckle. The first time I used a 1205, I thought it screamed like a jet plane. Try using a Model XXX or a Model G -- both of them are whisper-quiet: When you're using the bare floor tool all you can hear is the air rushing into the nozzle.

Storage hassocks were sold in department stores and some vac-shops as "point of purchase" enticements. Some vacuum cleaner manufacturers offered hassocks including Lewyt and Filter Queen but Electrolux never did. Most of the hassocks were made by a company called Pennant. They made them in a variety of colors including maroon, dark green, dark blue, light blue, gray and tan. I have about eight of them that I use for cloth hose and cloth bag storage with a few moth balls sprinkled inside.

Are good filtration bags available for these models?

The one I saw on ebay is missing the chrome cord rewind bracket on tail of machine (maybe was an option at the time?)... could make storage less convenient.

Bill and all ....great conversations here and thanks for sharing your pics. Bill I will have to defer you to someone who would be more familiar with Electrolux USA's history with Consolidated Foods Co , and other affiliates. The Pefect Powerteam Hepa filter bags are the best bags to use for our vintage Electrolux machines. Thx guys
