The "rug" side
I've wondered every time I've seen one of those tools how one was supposed to use it. The flat area that contacts the rug is only a few inches wide. Also, it seems that tools like that would tip to either side easily with a small amount of torque from turning or twisting. But, I've never really used one, so maybe someone who has could describe its use and effectiveness.

How does it work? Very well!!
I think the design of these rug tools is brilliant; definitely my favorite for suction-only rug cleaning. The broad side does a very respectable job considering there is no brush strip. The concentrator side works amazingly well. There is no "balancing" issue. It concentrates the suction for picking up stubborn bits that cling to the rug, (when you might be tempted to use the open end of the hose) and it makes cleaning lightweight scatter rugs possible....they don't get inhaled into the tool.

These were double-sided rug tools. Not a rug tool on the small side and a floor tool on the large side. I suppose I could have noticed the lack of bristles... Thanks!

Yes, these were for rugs only, a separate tool was for hard surface flooring. After the LXI they switched to making the rug on one side/floors on the other style tool.

The third rug tool is from a late (1948/49) Canadian model ZB30. It was only in production at the end of the run then they changed to the same style as your fifth nozzle with the ZB55.
