Are these special Electrolux models supposed to have a foam gasket that deteriorates? If so that's crappy.

I figured it out I used thick weather stripping. I wonder why Electrolux didn't use a rubber gasket. Yes, Andy I did open the Olympia special and it runs great! These specials are sweet little machines!

Good motor,poor suction--

--bad foam gasket. This can often happen with Specials that are now 30 plus years old.As above easily fixed with any foam that seals between fan housing and bag chamber.I have used layers of new, generic shop vac filter with hole cut in side. The above would be the last of 3 versions with a DJ type motor.
Great vacs with no chrome, built in cordwinder or automatic control but same hose & atts as deluxe.

Yes, the 1453 used foam in between the bag housing and the motor, because there wasn't enough room for a rubber gasket.

Yes, that is the correct Electrolux motor for the special 1453.

Ray,

Thanks for clearing that up. It was an easy fix! I enjoy using it. Great little vac and lighter than the regular models.
