Electrolux special model

I saw this picture with a listing for a hose. Anybody have one or know anything about this machine? Above the picture it said model 1453. I would guess it's a replacement for the model L, but I have never seen one before.

This Special Model

was the economy model that was sold starting with the Olympia 1 in 1978. I don't know how long it was made. I have only seen them in brown/white (the Olympia 1 colors) and two-tone gray (matching the Silverado).

It's the same idea as all the other Lux economy models - a no-frills version of the deluxe model - no cord winder, no auto pop-open, 'plain-jane' styling etc. It's kind of an ugly thing, isn't it.

Lux Special

Lux made this machine to accompany the Olympia, Silverado, and Diamond Jubilee, so they can be found in those three color schemes. The Special is the successor to the Model L. Specials used the same direct-connect electric hose that came with the more expensive canisters, but I don't know if that was a standard item; non-electric hoses were availavle, too. A cord winder was not standard but could be attached to the back of the machine, resulting in an awkard appearance, IMO. They are not automatic shut-off. The sound insulation, as well as the general fit and finish, does not compare those of the higher models. But, the machine worked fine. I think a Special whose paint is in good condition is a good addition to a collection.

Lux Special Model

I have to tell you, that I have had two of them new and used
them in my home. While I was selling new Eurekas, to my customers in the 80's. Sold rebult Luxs. It is a great, light weight machine, I liked them a lot personally.
Alas they were sold for one reason or another. Actually the
gray one I had, was sold to a friend who still uses it and likes it alot. If I recall they sold for around $189.00 plus
the cord rewind. Then another $100.00 with the electric hose
and the matching power nozzel!

Lux

I would like to find one. While it's not as sleek as a model L, I bet it's just as powerful. I seem to prefer the cord wrap to the cord winder models. The simple designs appeal to me. Also this dates to around the time I was born ('82). Which makes it just a little more "special", pun intended. They must be rare. The Electrolux timelines never show one.

I know just what you mean, Nicholas-

I have always had a fondness for the economy models. I grew up in rural areas in the Southeast U.S., where a lot of people were thrifty-minded, having come up through the Depression. Many people did have Electroluxes, but tended toward the economy models. I have always especially loved the 1954 Model E, the one with the removeable front cover. It was so simple and no-frills, but very beautifully designed and very light-weight! I remember a lot of them from my childhood, in particularly a next-door neighbor who had one. I was endlessly fascinated with it.

Specials are available

I see them on ebay from time to time. Also, I have seem them at the Electrolux dealer as trade-ins. I think the Silverado version is most common.

I just got one. It looks just like the picture on top. Does anyone have a manual for one?
I thought that it would have more suction, but it's not as good as my older ones. I thought it would have the silverado motor, but I was wrong.
Now on to the good news. I took it in to the Aerus dealer in town to check it out and he gave me an old power nozzle for free! He was really nice. The more I deal with Electrolux the more I like them.
