My electrolux is over 30 years old. I have had it fixed one time. It just stopped abruptly today and wouldn't restart. I took it apart and everything appears to be connected. I am wondering what is wrong. I was wondering if anyone would know why it stopped abruptly and now will not restart?

Sounds like you need the cord repaired, take the cord winder off and get a light tester to see if it lights on the 2 contacts on the back of the cord winder, in my past experience the cord probably broke where it connects to the reel on the inside, it can be removed and shortened and put back in.

Before

you tear apart your cordreel check your lid switch under your Front Cover, 2 check your switch , and then check your cord reel. Check the continuity of each and know where are not getting flow of power thru it. It will save time and money following these tips. Also if you get in your cord reel you could cause your spring to be sprung if you don't watch it. The springs are easy to get cut on if you don't watch it.

The first question is: Does the power nozzle run (but not the suction motor) when you turn on the switch. IF it DOES, then it's the carbon brushes in the motor and NOT the cord reel. If the power nozzle does NOT run when you switch on the machine, it's more than likely the cord.
