Electrolux Silverado special find

I found this poor little dude in a thrift store yesterday. Just the tank. The hose and pn are from my Electrolux Silverado deluxe. After I bought it for a dollar I opened it up when I got home it had been sitting out in the rain. But not for too long because the rust wasn’t horrible on the inside. The motor was wet when I took it out. I let it dry thoroughly and then put it back in. It flipped the breaker. I was pretty sure the motor was completely dry. So I wired it directly to an old test extension cord and it ran just fine.

I ended up rewiring the whole thing and now it runs like it should. I had the Olympia version a few years back with the same issue with flipping the breaker when plugged in. The wiring in these is pretty self-explanatory there is only one way the wires can go in. There is a copper terminal at the top and the other wires are keyed with round and square terminals. They can only go in one way. I’m pretty sure I had it wired correctly. Not sure why I had two in a row with the same issue. Anyway, it runs fine now with the PN.

Nice save...

...especially for a buck!

People working in thrift stores these days don't seem to know much of anything about vintage Electrolux vacuums except they're 'old' and thus worthless. I nabbed an Electrolux Epic 3500SR upright at Goodwill last summer for $3 in near perfect condition. It even had a brand new bag in it. I found that machine sitting among several broken down plasticrap vacs that were marked at $15 each.

It's fortunate that machine went home with someone who knew what it needed. Hope you enjoy your new acquisition.

This 1453 is a basic model

Not many sold…these replaced the model L, which was a wonderful selling model that sold well through 1979. These came out in the Olympia colors in 1980, then these colors during the Silverado era and In the Diamond Jubilee colors during that era. After that they were discontinued as the US and Canadian Electrolux companies merged and the Canadian 2100 LE replaced this model. That basic design is still used today with just a few minor changes for the Aerus Lux Classic and also the Aerus Lux Legacy.

These ….They get the job done, but are rather noisy and lack the higher end features of their top of the line sisters. Power hoses and nozzles were optional as was a cordwinder in model L fashion.
