The sidekicks

that are on the uprights right now are the same as the first one out. A sidekick will work on 1205 hoses on. The electric hose with pigtail and handle that inserts into power nozzle wand will work to. That was the nice thing about it. you could sell a customer a sidekick even if they didn't need a new machine, just add to your cleaner. If you had a turbo tool that the customer couldn't get because it wasn't out yet, you could get in and sell something to them. How many times did you get a car and a new item was added and you wish you had and couldn't get? Buy a computer and it changes.

The sidekick has to be my absolute favorite Lux attachment. Its so useful and it works so much better than the turbo tools.

Thanks for the message John (#21). Why did they go back to the old style of Sidekicks for the uprights? I thought the upright and canister attachments & hoses were interchangeable.

The Uprights

have always had the same sidekick. The same sidekick goes on the Low end canister..

It used to be true that they were kevin. Before the coming of the direct connect push button wand system on the Epic 6500SR all attachments were the same. The uprights used to have a plain hose, wands, and tools. The sidekick I was designed to fit the pistol grip metal/plastic handle ONLY on the canister vacuums. The sidekick II was designed to fit the all plastic direct connect wand system featured on the Epic 6500SR and the Renaissance. The sidekick II was used until the Guardian Ultra when the sidekick III came out. The uprights were only equipped with a sidekick when they were adapted for an electric hose instead of the regular non-electric hose. They were then able to utilize the sidekick I also on the hose handle. The sidekick I is still available for the Lux Classic model. The difference is in the hookups. Hope that helps clear it up.

There was no need to share profit.It was just an official way to adapt a quality Elux att if customer kept an off brand vac.
Part of the first Sidekick adapter kit was a plastic hose handle with metal end to replace the all plastic end of standard att kit.
The SK could be used on non electric hose using a strap cord as on L & G(or first upright kit) if metal end had notches to latch on or a tight friction fit.

Sidekicks for Canadian Electrolux models?

Were there Canadian versions of the Sidekick (ie, for the Canadian Electrolux models)?

I have a 1982 AP280; would that be too old for a Sidekick?

I bought an AP280 new in 1981 and a Sidekick did not come with the machine. A few years later I did buy a sidekick separately to use with the AP280. I'm not sure when they first started being sold.

First SK was about 86-88. After Silverado. Quickly became popular. Rainbow had a similar electric version (optional)about the same time. Kirby and many central vacs had used an air turbine brush previously.

I didn't realize there was a Sidekick III, and that the I and II designations marked the style of the unit--not the era like one would expect.

Jimmy, what model of Sidekick has the pigtail connection that will work with a non-electric hose vac?

There was no SK with an attached cord.If it was not on a direct connect Elux electric hose as had been used on 1205 and later you could insert hose and then plug cord onto the 2 round pins as also used on sheath cord,etc.That was why the SK could easily be used on the Hoover,Filter Queen and Sears/Eureka type with the hose adapter and cord included in the one package.

Thanks, Jimmy (#33). I'm just trying to figure out how to find an adapter. Does it have a name or product #? I'm assuming it would work with just a Sidekick i?

Before most vacs had electric hose with built in and direct connect connections strap on and adapter cords were more common and most canister and some central vacs used same size 2 pin connection.Cords should be still found in different lengths at some vac stores and suppliers.
