Electrolux side trim

Okay guys, I need some help here.  Some time ago I posted about beginning to build a Frankenlux vacuum.  Basically I wanted to take a standard metal body Ultralux LX vacuum and create my own rendition of a Commemorative Edition Ultralux.  I'm just stumped at how to remove the white side trim so I can prep and paint it black to match.  Since I'm making it more of a show piece rather that a daily driver, I'm not too concerned with using the plastic fuzion paint on it to make it match, I just am not sure how to safely remove the trim, paint it and re-install it when I'm completed.  Any thoughts?  Thanks!

If your going to completely disassemble the machine to repaint it the best way to remove the bumpers is to take the tank and soak it in very hot water, this will soften the bumpers and you can pull the bumpers toward the front, and once they unhook from the metal rail just peel them off the side of the machine, when you reassemble them  soak them in hot water and from the back of the tank forward slide them on the metal rail and when you get to the front pull them past the metal rail and slide them over the front. It sounds harder then it really is, it is very simple to do. Good luck, I would love to see the machine after you paint it, take some pictures of it. I have a Diamond Jubilee that I put a Miele motor in and painted the body with Gray hammertone paint that I use out in the garage to vacuum out the cars, the machine is a beast, no factory Electrolux has the suction that this machine has, and it looks pretty cool too.

Thank you for that information, that sounds like a good route for me to take and get it off. I'll pop it in the bathtub and try that! It may take me a while, but I will do my best to get it done and some photos up ASAP! I would love to see photos of your DJ as well, that sounds like a MONSTER vac! How big of a deal was it to shoehorn a Miele motor in that? Thanks again!
