electrolux shampooer...

I found (but didn't buy) an Electrolux floor scrubber/shampooer at the Goodwill tonight for 34.99. I didn't buy it because I don't know much about them and I have my Kirbys to shampoo. Plus it is pretty big and I don't where I'd keep it if I'd gotten it. It had three black bristled brushes on the bottom and was sitting in its own drip tray. It also had a splash guard around it.

I noticed the retractable cord... Never seen a shampooer with one of those before! But, I couldn't for the life of me find the power switch. Is it built into the handle position like the old Kenmore/Singers? Where is it on that thing? Are they good machines?

The other stuff was junk... 2 Hoover Elites both missing attachments and one Eureka Optima... the Optima and one of the Elites were actually tipped over and laying on their side! Needless to say, I didn't come home with anything!

I went to another thrift shop that used to have great stuff and they had junk too. The same things they had last week... a black and decker hand vac, a thermax power nozzle (but not the rest of the machine!), and a square Vorwerk box. That's the one I have a question about. It was a box with a handle and there was something on the bottom that looked like it was made to attach a brush to. Did Vorwerk make a shampooer/scrubber? There was no bag or brushroll, and didn't look like there was a place to put water.

This economy is making good deals at the thrift shops hard to find!

Switch in handle

To turn a Lux polisher/shampooer on, as soon as you release the handle and begin to lower it, this will activate the power switch.

They really are fantastic machines and do a great job of scrubbing and polishing floors. Also does a good job of shampooing carpets especially if you go over it with a steam vac to rinse out the suds.

Aye but there are two different sets of brushes, one for hard floors and one for carpet. I think the hard floor brushes have two rings of different colored bristles in each disk whereas the carpet disks are all one type of bristle.

yes you are right regarding the brushes, the ones for the carpet are black in color, the ones for scrubbing the floor are brownish in color.

pre-treating the carpet with the lux, letting the chemical act for 10-15 minutes, then scrubbing the carpet with the shampooer and then extracting does a wonderful job.

I like the older canadian shampooers better. They were direct drive as compared to belt driven. Also, the older canadian versions, the back brush rotates in the opposite direction to the two front ones, thus scrubbing both sides of the carpet. The current lux versions are belt driven and all brushes rotate in the same direction. The newer/USA models have a transfer case in them. Sometimes they can develop a leak, having said that, the motors are quite easy to change.
