Electrolux PN2

Hi, I am hoping one of the experts in this club can help me. I have a PN2 power nozzle. My problem is this. The brush roll seems to pull when the placed on carpeting. I often have to press the red reset button to get it going again. The brush roll bristles seem to be a little long. I do think the correct brush roll is on the power nozzle. I tried adjusting the belt thinking both tighter and looser. Still have the problem. The motor sounds fine.

Also, is the brush roll the sale for a PN 1 and 2 Lux nozzle?

Can anyone let me know what the problem might be?

PN 2

One thing to remember on the PN 2 is that it can be adjusted to compensate for bristle wear much like an Oreck upright.The end bearings will be marked 'used' on one side.They should both be in same position and if bristles are in new condition should be in the raised position.The belt should be in between loose and tight by moving motor.Hope this helps.

Electrolux PN2

Thanks rug sucker. The brush roll is still in the raised position correctly. I am beginning to wonder if I have the wrong brush roll on the PN2. The bristles still hang over. I can also put my hand under the power nozzle on the brush roll while the motor is on and eventually get the brush roll to stop. I then push the reset and the brush roll starts again. Thoughts? I adjusted the belt between loose and tight. Could it be the motor?

Please give me the following information on the Electrolux power nozzle brush rolls:

1) Are they marked with a # or other id?

2) How are PN-1s and PN-2s different? Are they interchangeable?

3) Is there a way to tell that they need replacing just by looking at them? The bristles on my PN-1 brush
roll are short but also even and seem to work ok. I'm just wondering if it could be doing better at deep
cleaning.

4) Does anyone still carry OEM PN-1 brush rolls?

PN1 used a brushroll without the thread cutters at each end

PN2 used a brushroll that had small thread cutters at each end so they would fit inside the bearing plates, they offered 2 different brush rolls a standard 2 row brush (part # 41920) and a Long Life three row brush (part # 41921)

PN4 used a brushroll that had larger thread cutters at each end because the bearing plates didn't have the cowling around the brush, they offered three different brush rolls the standard 2 row brush (part # 42071) brush roll commercial (3 wire) (part # 42074) and 2 row - 4 mil Soft bristle brush (part # 42067)

You can fit a PN2 brush in a PN1 but it will drag it down stop the unit.

I'm not familiar with the term thread cutters, so I'll have to look that up. Anyway, one time I received a free used brush roll from a local vac shop, but it appears to be for a PN-2 due to the longer bristles. You are right about the drag. I put the PN-2 brush roll in my PN-1 unit, and that's exactly what happened. In fact, when I reinstalled the original brush roll the motor ran until I put the power nozzle on the ground, then it would run for 5 - 10 seconds and quit. I depressed the circuit-breaker, but it did it again; so I figured the motor was shot.

In reading some of your replies it sounds like you have a lot of good information. A few of us are trying to put together information for a possible collectors' book (we're hoping more will pitch in with their brands of expertise), and I'm working on Aerus/Electrolux machines--particularly those over the last 25 years (Alex Taber and Charles Lester have the earlier ones already thoroughly covered). If you have years of manufacture and model #s for all the machines since the 1521s I'd appreciate having it. I would also be interested in knowing the colors of the attachments; including when they went to plastic wands, short narrow space cleaners, when the floor tool replaced the floor/rug tool as part of the standard attachment package, hose colors, and whatever else would be pertinent for collectors.

Thread cutters are those metal guards at the ends of the brush roll, they are there to cut the thread that is picked up before it gets tangled in the bearings.

As to the plastic wands, do you mean the fatter electric wands that replaced the steel wands for the powernozzle? It was sometime around 1993 when they came out with the Epic 6500 and the Renaissance. My Epic 6000 SR still came with steel wands.

I was recently told that it one can trim down a PN-4 brush roll and use it in a PN-1, so the bristles don't bog down the motor. Has anyone tried this? If so, how did it work?

I have been unable to find PN-1 brush rolls.

Have you tried eBay?

PN-1 brush rolls are readily available—and not terribly expensive—on eBay. I just bought one about a month ago for around $11, including shipping. When I opened up my PN-1 to install it, I found I had a PN-2 brush roll inside. It had the thread cutter discs at each end. I can't believe the difference in performance with the proper brush roll in place.

Thanks, Edgar. Yes, I've purchased PN-1 brush rolls on eBay before and think there are still after market ones being made.

I was just curious if trimming the PN-4 brush rolls was a viable alternative.

Someone else recently mentioned that he simply keeps his worn PN-4 brush rolls for his PN-1s which works well for him.

Pn 2 shuts down.

You say the PN2 runs fine ? Did you ever think it might be a defective circuit breaker?
Electrolux had a run of defective breakers around the time of the PN2. Try to swap it out for a new one and that might do the trick !
