I’ve used both, my Mother had a model L with PN1 and a lady I cleaned for also had a model L with a PN2. Since I vacuumed for both my Mother and my customer at the same time back in the late 70s and 80’s I was consistently using each basically “side by side”. I always preferred the PN2. The PN2 has 2 more rollers underneath so glides over the carpet a bit more evenly whereas a PN1 can be tilted forward to dig in the carpet more but the PN2 seems to suck the carpet up onto it better.
In more recent years with the acquirement of various Electrolux’s Mom has a PN2 and it still is my preferred as I also have a PN1 with one of my machines and you can feel the suction of the machine pulling the carpet up onto it at times on the PN2. I just feel it does a better job and is a definite improvement over the PN1 and I even prefer it over the later PN4A. I also like that it will stand up on its own unlike the PN1.
Also the metal cover of the PN2 is more durable. I’ve had pn1s with the plastic cover that won’t stay on properly because the screw holes strip out or break off on the front corners of the plastic or even the metal base of the PN1. Also the vent louvers on the sides sometimes break off if hit hard enough on furniture or something so the PN2 is more durable in that way.
If I was choosing, it would be the PN2. At that time Electrolux was constantly spending a lot of time on development and improvement of the products and the PN2 was an advanced model over the PN1 and it made the 1205 more deluxe than it had been with the PN1.
Just my two cents from my experience of having used both quite a bit to compare and I was always happier with the PN2 and I still feel this way today, anytime I’m using a PN1 I’m wishing it was a PN2, but when I am using a PN2 I’m perfectly happy.
Ultimately for even better cleaning, you may want an L shaped model, I feel they do the best job over all the models and are still what Aerus uses today on their new machines, but the PN1 or PN2 are more accurate for the 1205 and a little bit smaller if you clean tighter spaces and the smaller size may actually allow the suction to be stronger across the opening as its not as wide as on the L shaped models.
