Electrolux oxygen

I have heard great things on the oxygen models and my mom asked me to research them.


What is the highest model I can get? I seem to be stumbling upon the oxygen 3 with the led light power nozzle.


What do you thnk? Where can I get the bare floor power nozzle and the stairs power nozzle?


Are they very quiet? How powerful are they?

I really like my Oxygen canister.

The led headlight PN is the best and will do bare floors after pressing the power button on the hose handle to turn of power to the brushroll. I purchased the hand power tool that has an electrically powered brushroll and it does an AWESOME job on pet hair, furniture and small items. My Oxygen is Cayenne Silk (rust red/orange)and I had to purchase the hand tool seperately. The latest one I've seen in white, silver and lime green has the hand tool included. I looked it over in locally and it is the same great Oxygen as mine but in a newer and cool color and has the powerd hand tool included. I spent a while looking for it for you and included a link.

Brandon! Glad you are looking at the Oxygen canister...

My friends bought the first version of the orange Oxygen Model EL6988D and they love it. From what I have read on Consumer Reports, this earlier version cleans carpets better than the later versions because the older power nozzle works better. The older power nozzle has a transparent cover over the front edge so you can see the brush roll spinning.

The Oxygen Model EL6988 has consistently ranked among the top three power nozzle canisters in Consumer Reports for the past five years. The newer Electrolux Oxygen Three and other models do not rank as high. So if you can find the EL6988, that's the better Oxygen to get. They were having some problems with the plastic wands on the very first versions of this model (the electric contacts would melt easily if you disconnected the wands before turning off the vac). But I think you can get the EL6988 with the newer telescopic wand. You may have to find an old-stock EL6988 to get the older power nozzle with the newer telescopic wand. I just checked your local Walmart in Omaha, and it is selling a white version of the EL6988, but with the newer power nozzle that does not clean as well.

If you don't need to deep clean carpets, I recommend the Electrolux UltraSilencer Green - I bought it and it is a great little vac (quiet, powerful, easy to use, longer hose and cord than any Miele).

The Electrolux UltraSilencer Delux EL7066 had test results similar to the 7070A, but had weaker airflow through the hose, and was quieter. It ranked 8 in the pool of 26 tested bagged canisters).

"Oxygen" vacuums-see them frequently around here as visitors to vacuum repair places in my area-the problems-The bad wand connectors,hose handle switches and controls fail a lot,sometimes the motors act like airplane engines on test stands-they blow themselves apart.And circuit board failures in the canisters.Just be forwarned if you buy these--be prepared for problems.You may want to get the service plan for these models.I know CU rated these as good performers-but see so many of them at the Greenville Sew and Vac and the Former Vacuum Cleaner Hospital for warrantee repairs.Lowes is the main dealers of them here.

They used an Electrolux Oxygen 3 on the Discovery show "How stuff works" (based on the website I guess), they cut it open to show how modern vacs like that work, it's funny that they showed it here seeing how we don't get vacs with power nozzles, even if they're the same models as over there...

Electrolux Oxygen

I have the "orange" Oxygen 3. I LOVE the machine. It is very quiet,powerful amd very user friendly BUT I will say I have read a lot of people have trouble with the machine. I had 2 vac repair shops talk about electrical problems.
THAT being said, I have had no problems with mine but I am a vac collector and it is not abused or used that much. I am NOT in the "real" vacuum user world. They may have resolved the problems with the wands.
If you asked me about my 20+ year old Kirby or my 18 + year old Rainbow I can say for SURE that they hold up to use but not with vacuums in the collection that are treated very kindly and only used a couple of times a year.
The Electrolux Oxygen 3 is one of my quietest machines. I was told most of the problems with the wands were caused by owners disconnecting hose handle and wands while machine still running.
MY Oxygen 3 was a $499.95 Big Box store vac and the Miele was over $1200.00 so I would have much higher expectations from a Miele.

Electrolux Oxygen

I went down to the basement and looked on my box. The model number on my mine is el7020B. I was told by two vac shops to avoid the earlier power nozzles because of electrical problems with the wands and power nozzle connection. Of course I am sure thay have made changes because mine is about 2 years old and is the burnt cinnamon color.
I have had no issues with mine but if you check the "epinions.com" you will see they had a lot of complaints with the earlier version power nozzle failures. Let me know if you have any more questions. Good luck with the auction.

I have both...

...the 7020 Cayenne and the Ultra Silencer Green without the power nozzle.

The 7020 has the newer power nozzle, and works quite well on the area rugs. While not a fan of LED lighting, the nozzle light works very well at illuminating the area being vacuumed. That vac was purchased used, and was probably put up for sale because the switch that controls the power nozzle is "touchy." I have had no issues with the plastic electrified wand, but do find it to feel a bit on the bulky side.

The Ultra Silencer was purchased new, and has quickly become my daily vac. It has the metal telescopic wands, which easily connect to the traditional Electrolux USA/Aerus flip floor tool. I prefer the flip tool over the wheeled Oxygen hard floor brush tool for my hard flooring (by design, it slips more easily under and around furniture).

Both machines are amazingly quiet, and so easy to use. Using large rear wheels, both machines easily follow along behind me like a puppy.

Of the two, I prefer the attachments on the Ultra Silencer - the dusting brush/upholstery tool is the same style combo that we are familiar with from Electrolux USA/Aerus. The only problem is that the brush tool tends to fall out of its dock on the handle grip. I fixed that by attaching two small felt self-stick pads to the dock, and the tool no longer falls to the floor with every bump. I don't care much for the upholstery tool or dusting brush of the 7020.

The S-bags look small, but as I mainly have dog fur to contend with, they hold a tremendous amount.

All in all, while I tend to favor the green Ultra Silencer, I like both machines a lot.

I think the only Electrolux electrified wands you have to stay away from are the older style grey-coloured two piece set. The newer whiter telescopic wand seems to be fine. There are Eurekas (like the SurfaceMax 6833D) still being sold with the older pair of troublesome wands - see link below.

The older orange/reddish Oxygen power nozzle with the clear window over the brush roll is the better power nozzle. The trick is to find an Oxygen EL6988D (no later letter like "E") with the improved newer telescopic wand, and the better, older orange power nozzle.

oooh....and yes......have to agree with Joe: If your mom does not need to clean carpets with this new canister you are researching, go for the UltraSilencer Green. It's a fantastic canister - quiet, powerful, easy-to-use and it's partly made of recycled plastic so you are helping the environment!

It's not made to deep clean carpets, but the carpet/floor nozzle is great for low pile throw rugs and cleaning surface litter off all other types of carpet (the velcro lint-grabbers really work.)

You just need a little box to store the tools in the closet because there really is no decent on-board tool storage... hope all this helps you, Brandon!

This model is available at Walmart for $258. At least that is what it is hear. It is bagless, and looks like a really nice vacuum to me. I know it comes with the same bare floor brush that comes with the new Hoover Constellations, which is a fantastic tool.

With Chase's link above, you can see an Electrolux that has the right combination of improved telescopic wand and better-performing older power nozzle (this one is in a cool white colour.) Not sure how this bagless canister rates on suction and ease of use and other things like airflow through the hose. But the wand+power nozzle combination is the one you want for your Oxygen....

Why not try a regular Kenmore Canister? The link I'm including is the newer style of the yellow Progressive I have, and it is a VERY nice vacuum, and a great deep cleaner. And they alos have a LONG 8 foot hose!
