Electrolux Oxygen EL6988 3 Ultra Issues.

Hi there. I have a barely used Oxygen 3 that I am having issues with the on and off buttons in the handle. I have rarely used this machine which is why I think I am having problems. I think think the buttons are sticking. The buttons are not working and the problem is intermittent where as the machine will not consistently turn on and off. I see only one screw in the handle. I only saw one utube tatorial on how to remove the hose from the handle which really does not help me get to where the buttons are to see if there is anything I can do to resolve the sticking of the buttons. Any thoughts or insights as to how I can rectify the problem would be appreciated.

On anothe note, I am so grateful for this sight. Knowing that I am not the only vacuum lovr out there is great!

Those buttons

on the handle operate resistance pads similar to those used on microwave ovens, but they are for one reason or other problematic on these machines.
Our kids had one, and eventually it did not even power up.
Do you have the powered upholstery tool as well? That quit working first.
If not for the low quality electronics, these would have been good machines. They have two hepa filters (one inside the bottom), and are library quiet.
The buttons are thick plastic, and have to transmit the static resistance to the rubber pad and circuit below them.
What I did to get that machine to work again, was gut the pressure transducers, and hose control.
I wired the motor direct to the cord, spliced in another short cord from that to the hose connector, using only the two main power leads. I put a rocker switch on the underside of the handle wired to the hose only for the power nozzle.
Use a schematic to identify the circuits, or you will blow the fusable link for the motor.
other than only accepting the exclusive oval hose ends, wands, and attachennts, we were able to sell it in a gargae sale and recoup a small fraction of the purchase price. of nealry $500.

Electrolux

I have the Electrolux ultra one classic which I think came out after the oxygen series. It's a great vacuum, probably one of the quietest and most powerful canisters available. The only issue I have with it is the nonstandard hose end, but that is easily solved using an adapter. Still, I don't see why manufacturers feel the need to use nonstandard hoses and attachments, there's certainly no advantage for the consumer to do that. I'm not a fan of electronic speed controls, especially by using buttons on the hose, that's just more components that can fail. A suction relief on the hose is fine, a vacuum does not need to be a computer as well.

Thanks so much r=for the replies. I dont have the powered uphostery tool. Kinda bummed that I can't just buy a new pistol and will have to buy an entire hose.
