Ok so today I picked up the machine on the right today (I already had the one on the left) the only reason I picked it up was because it was very cheap and it had the original hose which mine didnt have. When I picked it up I noticed that the hose was different than the one I have at home it had an end similar to some of the later models unlike the one i had at home it had a twist in end can anyone explain why two models from the same age have different ends? Now I have a hunch why it is the way it is I think one might be an American style while the other is Canadian but I am not sure thanks? Zach

The different ends on the vacuums as you can see the one on the right has a slightly larger opening.

Hey Zach:

The one on the right, and the hose on the right are replacements from the late 1950's. By the 1950's Electrolux in Canada had discontinued the hose for the model XII and began making the adapter in the picture so that the standard hose then in use could be used instead. If the brown hose is a cloth weave you have an original hose for the model 57 there. If its a vinyl weave its a later replacement.

Hi thanks doug but what about the front of the vacuums would they also make a replacement front too thanks? Zach

LOL - sorry Zach - guess I wasnt clear - the black receptacle on the front of the vacuum IS the adapter. It can be unscrewed from the metal end bell for use in the exhaust as well.
