I had lunch today with my friend Norm who in 1958 began working part-time for Electrolux as a salesman. He turned this part-time position into a 17-year career with the company, working his way up to the position of Division Manager of the Pacific Northwest.

Anyhow, I told him about the Model T that I had listed on eBay. He chuckled and said, "Oh, -that- thing! It was a disgrace to the Electrolux name if you ask me."

I asked him if he sold any of them and he said, "A few -- but I tried to talk people into getting a reconditioned Model 30 instead because they were such better quality. They sold for the same price as the Thrift Model. One lady who bought one of them [thrift model] called me the next day and said to come back and get it. She wanted the model that her neighbor had just gotten, an Automatic E."

So there you have another tidbit of Electrolux Lore!

You always sell the best machines. This one truly is unusual. I still have the all original Lewyt Big Wheels machine you sold me which kicked off this crazy hobby with me. It even had the original hose hanger! I have one of these but need to sort through the boxes of parts to find a complete machine.

I'm amazed they still had model T machines when he started in 1958. The model S would have been the economy model at that time, to go along with the Automatic F. Maybe the branch he worked for still had some in stock. I think I would have liked the model T over a reconditioned model XXX. The "T" had the most powerful version of the motor, plus it had the cloth bag of the XXX. It had the easier to use attachments, as well as being much lighter in weight than the model XXX.

Norm may be a bit sketchy about dates by now. Witness the fact that he said one of the people who bought a Model T wanted to turn it back in for a Model E-Automatic. While that model was still being sold for a short time in 1958, that was the year that the Model F came out.

He's 85 years old and not in good health. (See photos -- he was pretty easy on the eyes back in the day! )
