Electrolux Model L vac, how to remove hose?

I picked up a nice vintage Electrolux canister vac recently and discovered it has pretty low suction. After doing a bit of investigating, I found that the hose has a number of leaks. I'm planning on buying a replacement hose, but I can't seem to figure out how to remove the old one from the vacuum. Is there a trick to it? Can anyone help me? I tried searching for vids on youtube demonstrating how to do it, but the only ones I've found are usually explaning how to remove the handle from the hose, and not the hose from the vacuum.

There should be 2 flat metal bars on the connection that are spring loaded. Depress and pull hose from vacuum. You may have to push in toward the vacuum while pressing if the seal is tight and/or the hose has not been removed for years. The tabs may be corroded in place and require some WD-40 or other penetrating oil to loosen them up.

Thanks for your response! I tried pushing in the flat metal bars you decribed, and while they push in, I still can't get the hose to pull out for the life of me. I'm going to try some WD-40 on them and see if that gets them to push in further or to get them to let go of whatever they latch to.

does the hose spin freely at the tank end when connected? If not, you may have some corrosion which the wd40 will help with. If that doesn't work, insert a thin metal object, like a nail file, in at the location of the release tabs and see if you can depress the spring locks. Try rocking the hose and/or pushing in hard while depressing the release tabs, the other thing that comes to mind is that someone stuck a thick washer or o-ring which is putting pressure on the locking tabs.

Thanks for your helpful responses! I tried some WD-40, and while it still took a little elbow grease, I got the hose off! I ordered up a basic replacement hose and *what a difference*!!!! This vac may look old, but it's better than most modern ones I've used! Thanks again, everyone! This is a nice community you folks have here!

love my vintage Electrolux vacuums. All of them are stellar performers with great suction/airflow and very, very quiet. My XXX's are still used for hard floors and above the floor cleaning, and later models with power nozzles are my daily drivers.
