Electrolux Model G

Well it finally happened, along side Hoover, I am hooked on Electrolux. This really nice example was given to me by a good friend and fellow vac enthusiast, Rick. It'll be well taken care of and maintained until I kick the bucket.
I had just given it a thorough outside cleaning, polishing and waxing, as well as lubricating all the wheels. (Though it didn't need it, I syringed new grease in the swivel caster bearings.)

It does have a bit of dirt/electric smell when running. I read that its a sign of a machine that has sat for a while. I have used it around the house as frequently as possible but the smell doesn't appear to dissipate. Its not unpleasant but I hope its nothing to worry about, what do you guys think?

The hose is a tiny bit leaky as well, but I'll find a way to repair that. (I hear clear plastidip is the key, but only the canned kind and not the spray type) Or I'll just try to find a vinyl hose online.

Aside from all that, I'm pretty impressed with the suction and quietness of the model G. Even with the sightly leaky hose it still has better suction than that of my Hoover Portable with a new bag.

I'm still fairly new to Electrolux, so I'd like to know more about servicing and what to look to out for ahead of time.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Nice! My XXX has had that smell for so so long, but I assume its the cloth bag or the exhaust filter, I could be wrong of course.Kind of a warm motor/ oil smell.

Those motors had a very distinct smell from the carbon brushes. It's noting to worry about! I quite like it

I suppose that could be it, considering there's no exhaust filter on this model. Glad to hear its nothing to worry about!

I suck up some of these beads they smell great. They come in many different scents and can be found in the detergent isle at the supermarket .

My 2 G's have their own shelves. I use the genuine vinyl pigtail hose for cleaning (120.00) eeek.

Love the setup you have there! Yikes that is rather pricey. The vac shop also told me an electric hose is rather expensive. I don't have a PN-1 and I don't have the need for one given the house where this machine will be stored/used at has an all tile floor.

I think I have an original dusti g brush and floor/ rug tool for this. I'll take a look when I next run down to the shop

The smell could be coming from the felt that lines the inside of the motor chamber. It was used to deaden sound, but the felt hangs on to the dust and carbon brush residue. If you have it open (say for checking the carbons) you could try spraying the felt with fabreeze and see if that helps.

That sounds like it could be it. Either way I think a thorough inside cleaning is in order. I don't have the liquid spray febreeze on me at the moment, but I think a light brushing with simple green/water should clean up the felt padding lining in the motor chamber.
