Electrolux Model G cord winder removal

Hello,

Can someone tell me how to remove the cord winder on an Electrolux Model G? I cannot figure out how to do it, and I need to, because the winder has to be either repaired or replaced (cord will not retract) and I want to grease and oil the motor.

To be more specific, I need help removing the polished steel cord winder HOUSING from the machine, so I can access the motor and repair the winder. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry If I was not clear in my original statement. Thanks.

Electrolux Mo G

You start with the rubber side bumpers.Easier if they are warm from sitting in sun,etc.As bumper pulls rearward you will see 2 rubber tabs that fit in slot.You might gently use small screwdriver to get tab out of slot without tearing.You can then remove cordwinder with 2 screws at sides or leave on and remove motor housing with screws at bottom and under upper trim.If you remove cordwinder use CAUTION around spring!! or leave alone.
The mo G with its automatic control,4 ply self sealing bag,4 stage fan system,sound insulation,tapered hose,quality attachments,Power Nozzle and MORE was called 'the Worlds Finest Vacuum Cleaner'.Other good and great vacs have come and sometimes gone but it is hard to argue with this description.

I love my Model G so much suction and oh so very quiet. Even the dogs don't mind it and they hate vacuums.  The G, my 2 XXX (30)'s and LX are the only vacuums that don't have them running for the hills.

Replacing power cord on Model G

I need to replace the power cord on my parents Model G, including the connections on the cord winder plastic bobbin. Has anyone done this and wish to share their experience? I believe I will need to drill out the rivents to remove the cover plate where the connections are made to the rings, and determine a re-attachment strategy. Any help appreciated.
