My Electrolux Model E has the cloth shakeout bag. However, I also insert a disposable paper bag into it in order hopefully to improve filtration. Does anyone know if that practice significantly improve filtration and does it significantly affect performance? It doesn't seem to affect performance, even with the after filter in place.

If I had a vacuum like that, I would do the same. Either that, or I would just run without the shake out bag altogether.

Not to be captain obvious here, but that paper bag will keep the cloth bag cleaner than without it, and that is a good thing.

I have virtually no experience with Electrolux cylinder cleaners, so forgive me if I sound ignorant. But, if there is a HEPA synthetic disposable bag available for that cleaner, I would strongly consider using only that.

I imagine that if the cloth bag was very clean, it would probably afford the same performance as if your were using just the disposable bag.

In theory, anyway.
