Electrolux Model 30

My parents found this while cleaning out my Aunt's house. They were going to trash it. I'm positive it is a rebuilt machine, but any history on this would be appreciated. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. The machine still runs strong, but there is no hose and the carbon brushes need replacing. I don't know what I will do with it. I guess it will just sit in the box. I just couldn't stand the thoughts of it going to the landfill.

Those attachments are a dead giveaway. Looks like a refurbished model, maybe done by Metropolitan

I forgot to include this picture. This was in the box as well. There is no date on the box. Any idea about what year this machine was made. It may have been just a conglomeration of different parts from different years and hard to determine a specific year.

Are the carbons difficult to replace? What type of hose should I look for if I may use it as an upstairs vacuum?

Nice Electrolux.

Leatherette indicated a late model XXX I'm guessing 1954. Tools in the box are not Electrolux, but the wands and rug tool in the last pic are. The rug tool looks like a model XI (11) from I believe 1927 to 1930. I can't see the cord that well but looks original, the hose should be a braided dark gray.

The model XXX was the first all American Electrolux, the model V (5) and XI were made in Sweden, the model XII (12) started out in Sweden but the last were manufactured in Old Greenwich, Connecticut from 1933. The model XXX was the longest running Electrolux 1937-1954 (or 55)?

Generally speaking, these were built like a Sherman tank, indestructible, hard working machines with attachments galore. You would do well to keep it as an upstairs vacuum cleaner, and you can find all the correct attachments to get it in top working order.

. . . for the information to go to the 2013 archives to read up on the Electrolux. I found it to be an interesting read. My grandmother had a model XXX after her Westinghouse canister was ready for retirement. Her model XXX was a very good machine.

Hose and carbon brushes

Could anyone tell me if I can covert a Kirby vinyl hose to use with this? Can I get the Lux ends to fit?

Any directions on how to replace the brushes?

Carbon Brushes

The carbon brushes you need are 39-V. I have some. Just email me your address and I'll send you a set. To replace the brushes you'll need to pull the motor out of the machine. Hose

Tim if you need a replacement hose and have the ends, I have several of the hose blanks that are cloth type but are new. Give me a shout I can help you out. I have serviced the motors and replaced brushes and bearings in many model XXX or 30 vacuums and will be happy to walk you through on how to clean and service the motor to where it will run like new!

You really need to replace that hose. Its worth spending $20 for a new Vinyl hose. They dont leak. Ever.

Now all you need are the cord winder and Companion. The companion was introduced in 1949, and is a tool holder that rides piggy-back holding the standard attachments so they're right there when you need them.
